I'd say pics or it didn't happen, but honestly, I believe it. I passed by a comment once that said something along the lines of "Twitter is weird, because no matter who you are, somebody will always come out of the woodwork and comment on something you said." So when you say that somebody from LRG commented on something you said, it's honestly not surprising and I believe you. Oh, for sure. If you're somebody who, for example (and it is indeed based on something I spotted on your Twitter last year during Pride Month) makes a snarky comment about how "will there be a train with straight colors or will I be discriminated against?", there's a high chance you'll be ganged up on like in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, even if that person was just shooting the breeze. Honestly, I don't know how or why anybody takes that kind of abuse, no matter where you stand on the political scale. I feel sorry for anybody who has to be on Twitter just because they're a celebrity or pseudo celebrity. It's time to take a stand and just get off Twitter (and Discord for that matter) and find another place that isn't full of debauchery, insanity, and backstabbing on a regular basis. But, that's just me. I don't really have a horse in this race.

Hey, you know what? (/Cletus) I think you would dig Nightmare Reaper. That is, if you like games like Doom and Duke Nukem 3D. There's plenty of randomization in that!

I hear Undine and I just immediately think Tales of Phantasia.

Hey, fantastic! I wish I could be like you and not have to worry about aging batteries and systems. That takes too much effort though, and I already got enough gaming (that still works) on my plate, but more importantly, I'm getting back to exercising regularly, so now it's even less time to game. Pity. Oh well, just gotta do what I can.

Oh hey, did you ever think about what kind of NES and FC games you look for? I was looking into something like Chaos World when I spotted it on DarkLink's page. Even so, I wonder if you'd dig Chronicle of the Radia War? Or maybe the Lolo trilogy? Or Xexyz or any of Atlus' other NES games? Culture Brain games?

No. It's a dystopian future rollerskating bloodsport game. DEFINITELY inspired by the movie "Rollerball." (The original I suspect) It's like the old Tony Hawk games but a ton of people are trying to kill you. Loved it. And that soundtrack!

[Link]

The ironic thing is, I HATE DLC but this is an instance where I would actually buy DLC for this game! And there is none. It is a fully realized experience for a fair price. If they added onto it, I wouldn't mind.

I do like it so far, but I can't say I love it just yet. It's fucking Castlevania, and while that means it has everything I like about Castlevania, it also means it has everything I don't like about Castlevania. I don't mind farming items a little bit, but this seems like I'm stopping every 2 or 3 rooms to kill the same enemy dozens of times, because somebody decided that having as many as 5 different items on a single enemy was a good idea. It is good, but I've played better; I'm glad I got it for fairly cheap.

Hey Wilith, you know who seems scummier than LRG? ININ Games. This company is in cahoots with Taito and other stuff, which is good. The [gets mouth very close to mic] problematic aspect comes from the fact that they seem very greedy. This is the same company that made separate releases of Turrican games and also think that ten simplistic Taito arcade games are worth forking over $40 for, which is in stark contrast to the days of Taito Legends and Taito Legends 2, but in defense it's like a buy 5 get 5 free of Arcade Archives titles. Anyway, we got a new Puzzle Bobble game, you know what they do? They make available the original Super NES Bust-A-Move in a separate digital release for $8. Oh yeah, don't just plop it into the already $40 Puzzle Bobble Everybubble as a bonus even as a means of enticing people. In the new Bubble Bobble that came out late in the Trump era, the arcade Bubble Bobble was thrown in there, so why couldn't they do the same for this release? Now, we're getting a collection of Ray shooties with Storm, Force, and Crisis, but then you say that R-Gear isn't available in the download version of it? So you're punishing players for not going out of their way to get the physical version which will likely be sold out and used as scalper fodder? What the F? Now maybe it's not ININ's fault, maybe it's the way the overseas corporation says, who's to say, but still, that's pretty scummy.

Still kicking booty with those rando mizers, I see! That's great. As long as you're enjoying yourself, that's all that matters.

I liked Alcahest, you'll like it too. I sampled Gunple, didn't play much.

Hmm. Well, is there anything specific you want for NES/FC games? Have youse checked out the liberry enough like MrFwibbles did?

Hmm. Legend of Oasis was one game I forgot about when I was buying up Saturn games years ago. I don't really play my Saturn much anymore, I kinda played what I wanted to play and shelved it, awaiting to do any sorta replays. Azel, Dark Savior, and MKR remain unplayed. One pro I can think of is that, hopefully, the Saturn and SEGA CD lasers won't have been worn down. Maybe it don't work like that, but I can see that.

Oh, I remember Albert Odyssey. 2/3 into the game and the game decided to start acting up. Alls I can remember is a glitchy looking enemy and the game would just remain on a black screen between loading. What a dang shame.

That might be it; this is my first time through it, and that's mostly because I'm playing them chronologically in the order I bought them now, so I don't still have shit from 2017 in its digital shrink wrap. It's great so far, though it seems like it might be on the shorter side? That's definitely not a problem, but I feel like I'm blasting through it. That's cool; the only game I'm aware of that I have a credit is a Mega Man fangame, as a beta tester and sound editor.

That's true about the constant camera panning during battles, but you've to remember that it was the PlayStation era, so at the time they looked good. Long loading between battles do suck though! That's why I'm hesitant to go through Hudson Soft's Super Shell Monsters Story II.

No arguments there! Those are games for masochists and elitists. That's true about NES games and is unfortunate, but oh well, it is what it is and I still love it nonetheless. There is also a matter of FC games also being difficult, and you couldn't rent video games in Japan.

The thing about EarthBound and Chrono Trigger is that they're the RPGs that are loved by (mostly) people who aren't really interested in diving deeper into 16-bit RPGs. That's why everybody acts shocked that the SEGA CD had RPGs or games like Lufia II exist. They're the most popular ones, therefore to some they're the absolute best ones! Whatever, that's how some people are.

Hmm. I never did go through Azel. It's entirely possible that the people calling it the best overall Saturn game are people who are trying to validate the fact they own a $1000 Saturn game. It's the same thing with the people who are like "You know guys, this [insert system] game you never played is totally a hidden gem", they're just egotists who want validation, and it works and that's why they continue to make lazy, click bait listicles with more and more people popping up and making their own hidden gem videos. I swear, if I see "hidden gem" one more time, I'm gonna throw something. (Note: This is hyperbolic.) Overall though, there's no accounting for taste. If somebody says Panzer Dragoon RPG is the best Saturn game, then that's cool.

I'll vouch that Grandia is not only the best overall Saturn RPG (next to maybe the Shining Force III trilogy), it's the best overall RPG of the 32-bit era, though not the most challenging. Again, Final Fantasy VII was the most popular and well known, and people nowadays are just discovering Grandia which is disturbing because it's like "Yes, there's more than just Square RPGs, a-doy." Like I said to Fleong though, better late than never.

I never minded Baby Mario's crying. If anything, it's motivation to... you know, not take damage. Yoshi's Island is a mighty platformer though. I hope you go for hunnid p(ercent).

Not sure why I got the remasters of VIII - X-2. Pretty sure I told myself that once was enough for these games. Maybe they were just on sale and that was motivation.

Hey, thanks for the birthday wishes, Sailor Lil.

In short, Safer Sephiroth is the final boss of Final Fantasy VII, and it is where the infamous One Winged Angel song came from.

You're talking to the guy who hates the modern day worshipping of EarthBound, so I totally get where you're coming from as far as people obsessing over a game and you can't really escape it. At least in the case of meme games, the people obsessing over those are chronically online high school and college kids because Internet popular = young people will like it regardless, so that's kind of a soft excuse, but I dunno, Chrono Trigger, EarthBound, Dark Souls, it is what it is.

Street Racer is a Mario Kart like game. The 32-bit version is supposedly the best, but the 16-bit versions don't look bad. Matt Furniss did the MD soundtrack.

That's fair. Final Fantasy definitely peaked at VI, but VII... might be more nostalgia based, honestly. VIII did certainly age better as far as graphics and mechanics go, but I've only played through that once about a decade ago. I think it really is more nostalgia for that particular era that was the late '90s during the RPG boom.

Wait, aren't you playing a hack of EarthBound? Maybe it's different.

That's so great! You finally went through Grandia. You can see how it really is one of the greatest RPGs of the 32-bit era.

You took the time to level up as high as you could! It's kinda like how you can easily whoop Safer Sephiroth in FFVII if you just take the time to level up certain Materia (there are superbosses for a raisin.) I agree, actually! I like 1 better than 2. Maybe if they didn't force you to sit through cutscenes every time you use certain magic spells.

If Ubisoft wasn't so greedy and full of scumbags, they'd probably remaster the original Rayman games, although Origins (presumably) and Legends are pretty good on their own. Oh, or maybe port Street Racer, preferably the Saturn version. Although the MD version with Matt Furniss audio wouldn't be a waste of time eyether!

Hey, you've any interest in Panic Porcupine? It's described as Sonic meets Meat Boy.

That's interesting... guess that explains why I have an update queued for it. Little Misfortune was good, too, but I still like Fran Bow better.

Well, I just finished Yakuza Kiwami. The story was good, not as intense as Yakuza 0 was but quite intriguing nonetheless. Curious about how the story of Kiryu and Haruka evolves I immediately started playing Kiwami 2 and whoa! what a change! The game engine is very different, I kind of like it!
The more I play these games, the more I like them, that's for sure.

Well, actually, seems like a lotta companies are sting-ee when it comes to their legacy software. SEGA, Konami, Taito... Konami's got a huge catalog of both their software and Hudson Soft games, but unless they put out a limited edition mini console that'll be exclusive to Amazon that'll get bought up by greedy scalpers and resellers, they don't seem interested in putting out their older games... even though they can just PLOP some on NSO so they wouldn't have to worry about people not buying them and they can just see for their dang selves. Seriously, NES, Super NES, N64... they just choose not to. SEGA's no better, why haven't we seen any games from systems that aren't Genesis?

Data East is the only company that has no qualms on rereleasing most of their stuff. Taito is sting-ee, and so is Irem who only seem to want to put stuff on the Evercade or something.

Addendum: Looks like one hell of an improvement patch.

Now, that's a fine piece of movie!
That being said, Dennis Hopper was a great actor. It is kind of surreal watching him playing Bowser. It is like watching Raul Julia playing Bison in Street Fighter.

As far as I can tell, Color Edition is the actual name given by the creator, and DX just comes from other people calling that to be consistent with official Nintendo releases and other hacks. I copy and pasted off the hack page to be lazy, so Color Edition it is.

And thanks! I actually noticed on the day this time! I think at the same time you left your comment, because yours was not there on my page when I noticed, then when I clicked the button to leave my comment, yours appeared labeled "just now"
Fun coincidence!

Ain't it weird how not a lot of people seemed to have played the 3DS (and Wii U for that matter) in general over the last several years until it was announced that the eShop was closing? And then everybody rushed out and got as much digital titles as they could.

Zack and Wiki is one of those games I learned about on X-Play back in the day and managed to play many years ago that I'm almost certain people are just now discovering and touting around as a hudden gum. It's a game that makes great use of the Wiimote. Sometimes you'll use it to turn a crank, for example. It was a pretty good game.

Sin & Punishment are rail shooties! You'll be shooting a lot, but you also use a melee weapon. I don't remember if the Wii sequel holds up, but the N64 game is wonderful. It's on Switch Online!

Man, speaking of Sonic, did you hear about this Moider, sorry, Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog? I don't know what it is, but it sounds like something that'll have eleventy billion videos made about it. Somebody on here described it as Sonicronpa, which I guess is a combination of Sonic and Danganronpa. That speaks for itself.

"original RE4 is a pile of shit."

Oh no, no Internet and even worse, no power? That had to have been the longest three days. The longest that happened was about two days. Well you survived! Hopefully you took advantage of handheld systems.

You cooked steak? Marvelous. And you cooked for your mother? That must've made her so happy!

I know what you can play. Punch-Out!! Or maybe Sin & Punishment 2? The Last Story? Zack & Wiki? Wii U? You'll hafta consult Master Fwibbles, who is a defender of the Wii U and thinks the Switch drools.

I remember NES Remix. Didn't get into them too much.

Oh man, speaking of Sonic, did yoi get a load of Sonic Origins Plus? Looks like an improvement even if the GG games really aren't that great in hindsight (they are what they are), but still no Knuckles Chaotix. The addition to play as Amy should get the juices flowing of some people.

I'm sorry, what's ODE stand for again? I keep reading it as DRE, or maybe RRoD.

Ain't it weird how piss easy Grandia becomes when you level up weapon and magic? Again though, Grandia: Digital Museum contains more thrilling battles, so look into that soon as well.

It sounds like a lot of people don't miss them too. I was never a fan of them unless they're telegraphed by which cutscenes would have them or not. It sucks getting instantly killed or wanting to enjoy a cutscene when you have a required prompt come up. I remember hearing about Sony's involvement led to some weird decisions with RE3. Sucks that they had that much control, but things are luckily different now. It'd be nice if the more deserving games got remakes instead of Capcom moving onto RE5 for their next remake though.

SMT V is a very solid RPG to chill out with. I've heard a lot of good about Bayo 3 and Dread as well. Hopefully it's more fun and less annoying when you return.

It's definitely been consistently chilly for almost 3 months into the year now. Things are slowly changing but it'd be nice for things to be just a bit warmer before summer heat starts in just a few months.

I don't mind the late responses. Take all the time you need. I also hope your birthday was nicer this year round. Being unlucky half the time on your birthdays sucks, but there's still a chance that things might be better.

It sounded like you had a lot of fun going through Ishin so that's not a bad tradeoff too. I'd say the more comfortable option is probably best, even if the playthrough has to wait. Having to go back and forth sounds kinda annoying.

Good to hear that there aren't a lot of compromises to be made then. It's good that the Mini 1 is already set up to be a backup in case it does get retired later on too.

It looks confusing from the little I've seen and it getting rarely used sounds like a common sentiment. A few friends I know that have them don't use them much outside of playing the occasional PS4 game, but that's about it.

Sounds like a fun visit. I gotta hold off on getting Kirby myself but Return to Dreamland is a really great entry in the series. Definitely the best multiplayer Kirby and one of the best Kirby games in general. I've heard great things about all of the others too. It's nice that couch coop is still alive and well if you look in the right places.

I did a similar thing with my Majora's Mask randomizer ROM a couple years ago. Tried my best to sort out the issues but had to settle with what I had since it wouldn't cooperate. I really hate it when people do that too in forums. It's the most frustrating thing.

I get that. Prices have only gone higher and the pandemic sealed the deal for anyone wanting to get into retro games without spending a fortune. It usually comes down to what you personally want and have access to. Thankfully most games are emulate-able and saving money is always worth it. Cheaper methods you're happier with is a good alternative too.

Returning at a later date when you feel the itch to try again sounds best. I get not wanting to leave something unfinished though. I'm long due for a replay of Super Paper Mario too. Easily one of my favorite Wii games. Galaxy 1 + 2 on actual hardware with Wii remotes and a sensor bar helps a ton too.

I was never a fan of Sony's exclusivity deals so I'm glad more 3rd parties are able to diversify and stuff like this doesn't continue to happen.

Oh yeah, any game that has a score system with no point to it is baffling to me as well. Doubly so if the game is consoder a score-focused game and has a ranking system, but only rewards high ranks. There's no point to getting a high score at that point, so anything you get after the bare minimum for the highest rank is total waste of your time. If it was more about rankings than score, then the extra leeway would be good, but that's not a score-focused game at that point. If anything, it'd make you feel worse on replays when going for high scores, as you'd still get the same reward you got earlier. Total waste of time. You need something to make score worthwhile or it feels completely hollow.

I attempted to try Pokemon TCG, but I can't say it stuck with me, either. I enjoyed collecting the cards and looking at them in my youth, but never got much out of the game itself. I've heard of Card Fighters Clash, I think that got re-released on Switch earlier. I don't know if it's on other platforms, but it looks fun!

Oh my god, yeah, miserable's a good word for it. Battle Network 1's maps were nightmarishly labyrinthian. Nothing else in the series even comes close to how massive and convoluted those could be. They fixed that as early as the sequel and I could not be happier. BN1 is mostly only remembered fondly by people who grew up with it. Many people quit on the power plant dungeon, if they even got that far in the first place. It also helps that BN2 onward also make the cyberworld stand out more with each area having its own look and color palette as opposed to everything looking exactly the same. Friends don't let friends start with Battle Network 1.

Seriously, here's an early-game area from Battle Network 1: [Link]

And here's an early game area from Batte Network 2. Note how different levels of elevation have different colors to make them more visually distinct, too!: [Link]

So yeah, big difference!

Oh, the music is fantastic in Sonic Frontiers, particularly the vocal tracks for the Titans! I recommend going in blind for those, they hit hard! Easily the highlights of the whole experience! Perfect rewards for exploring and doing whatever you feel like in the open zones. I can't wait to go back for the new content and quality-of-life stuff they added recently!
