Oh, yes.
Sorry, it was me that got confused.
This game is horrible; I really don't recommend it, even for curiosity.
It's the worst turn-based RPG that I have played in my life.

Hey, it happens. That and I was uncharacteristically punctual in my own response that time, so who could've predicted that?

This is genuinely upsetting. You KNOW I have to pick a favorite, and that just seems impossible out of a list like this. My inner 13-year-old says Bobson Dugnutt is a slam dunk, my inner teacher is impressed as hell at the FUCKING UNPRONOUNCEABLE Mario McRlwain (and I live and taught in the wastelands of Rural Pennsylvania; I know a thing or two about pronouncing the unpronounceable), and my inner Spanish teacher isn't about to let Mike Sernandez OR Todd Bonzalez go. All that, and Sleve McDichael still probably wins.

I see Disney XD, and can't help but wonder if that was intentional or not. Like, with Metal Wolf Chaos, you know damn well it is, but is Disney as out of touch as McDonalds? πŸ€” Asking the real questions. And no, I'm not kink-shaming McDonald's; I'm just pretty sure they didn't know what, "I'd hit that!" means. Back on topic, it's good to see that there is something - ANYTHING - that The Mouse doesn't own.

OH! I KNOW THAT ONE! ...kinda. There was a remake/reboot/Mr. Rerere/whatever a few years back that I think was called... Devilman Crybaby or something? Iunno; my sister was telling me about it, and the first episode was CRAZY. I was SUPER into this hellish acidscape of a cartoon, and then the second episode kinda sent me spiraling, so I had to cut it right then and there, and had to spend the next few hours rending my skin from the body to which it clings so tightly. She didn't think to issue a content warning to her sister with PTSD. The entire disco filled with giant vagina monsters devouring people whole was fine, but the second you start getting rapey, I'm out. But yes, still a very long time for something to be running.

For real? COBOL!? I never would've dreamt people still used that; shit was outdated by the time mustaches and afros started getting popular. That does make sense, though; modern malware bullshit isn't going to affect something that ancient, so it's worth keeping around in some capacity.

It really is, and I have partial license to it, because I can do a decent Krusty impression. My sister is mystified by this, because, "You've never smoked a day in your life!" but she does a spot-on Barney Gumbel, so vocal talents don't always make sense.

It was really good! They went with a really dark palette that used a lot of bold colors, which is RIGHT up my alley. There weren't a ton of stand-out visual moments, but it was consistently good throughout. That said, the final battle was an absolute spectacle, and the ending scene currently sits as my desktop background, so there were a few. As for the actual game, I've always felt that it was the best of the Game Boy titles; I was dumb and got a Game Gear instead of a Game Boy, so the Mega Man titles were always just some exotic dream until I got a Super Game Boy and FINALLY managed to get my hands on 4... and that was kind of a rude awakening. I've always loved 5, though, even though weapon weaknesses are almost useless because of how STUPIDLY OVERPOWERED the Mega Arm is, especially if you get the CL upgrade. This was actually the first time I looked up a damage chart, and tried to beat each boss with its weakness... and maybe the last for a lot of them.

I really like when that happens! One of my best friends is playing AINI and I'm having the time of my life talking with him about the characters and story.

It's understandable! I have a lot of free time to grind up gaming so that's the reason I progress a lot with every game I play.

Go for it! You can do it!

Nope, I haven't yet. I have been in a JRPG spurgle and I can't stop. I finished Mario RPG and Lunar. Currently, I'm playing Lunar 2. I'll go back to Steam games next month or so I think? Maybe I'll change my mind. And ye, I understand. It took me a year to finish AAI1 since it was so boring.

It's an amazing year for sure! Also there are Baten Kaitos remakes coming up next month! That's great news for JRPG and Monolith Soft fans!

Welp 2 months have passed and I forgot to reply oop.

I do really want to get around to the Xenosaga games and beating future redeemed really lit a fire in me to do so but so much has also been coming out that it's just been one of those eternal backburner things unfortunately. I will get to it soon though.

There's a lot of great ideas in Star Fox Zero but "every game needs a new gimmick/thing or else we ain't making a new one" strikes again and put that awful control scheme in which actively ruins the game.

No idea If you've finished 999 by this point but I assume you should have a proper opinion now of it and I am wondering what your thoughts are? With 999 it's primarily the dual screen function that is so crucial for the plot. Won't say more here just in case but it being on a single screen really does hamper it.

Yeah, I've yet to pick it up yet (and am questioning whether I actually do considering I already own the untold versions on 3ds) but have heard great things so excited to actually see more EO games in the future.

Yeah good ole key causing pain and crippling depression with anything they do.

Some of the local flavor, of course! I can think of plenty of other examples, but none were out there enough to tie in there; Piechota's Auto and Collision doesn't exactly make jaws hit the floor, like, "An actual real person saw this and decided to run with it."

Yeah, that makes it complicated to assess, especially with not really being aware of what's out there... and the glut of cartoons made specifically for adults, because for both better and for worse, the last few generations decided they didn't need to grow up in the traditional sense. Bad for obvious reasons, but also good because why the hell NOT watch cartoons as an adult, if that's what you like? Don't have to start being boring and pretending to like kale smoothies just because you turned 30. But yes, the seeds have been planted, the roots go deep, and those generations are raising children now, so who even knows?

Yeah, and Doraemon, kinda; I remember when that came over here, and I think The Mouse bought the rights to it? Don't know if it ever went anywhere, but I imagine it's still popular in Japan. FIFTY YEARS!? I knew Gundam was around for a long time, but I never knew it was that long!

That's capitalism, Baby! πŸ‘ˆπŸ˜‰πŸ‘ˆ

Aforementioned I'm fucking old: my first language was... Cobol, I think. I don't remember anything about it, but give me a few minutes, and I bet that'd all start coming back to me, even though it's SUPER obsolete now. I did also learn C++, which I think is what fucked me up with Javascript; it's the same basic syntax - or is lexical features what I'm looking for? Vocabulary, maybe? - but rather than building everything from scratch, you've got all these premade objects and shit, and I just couldn't wrap my head around all that. I kept wondering how many objects there were and how they're all used, and I just couldn't let that go, so it was all a confusing mess to me. The person teaching me really sucked, too, so that didn't help at all. I imagine object oriented languages are a hell of a lot more convenient to use, if you can get the hang of them.

Well, I'm excited for you; best bit of flair I've ever added to a program was a comment that said, "[My name here] Seal of Approval: It's not just good; it's good enough!" Yeah, I stole it from Krusty the Klown, but whatever.

1. Yes, it's a short game due to the hardware limitations of the original platform (GBA). And I couldn't agree more, it's like an incentive to play and comment games and update its progress. Having a little space where you can write down some notes does wonders.

2. I just love those type of games too much, they're very addicting and the storylines have great payoffs. I finished AINI in two weeks or so just because I was so invested into the plot. I hope you can get through them, you can do it!

3. Thank you! I'll try to play it soon! I'm trying to diversify genres a bit so I started Katamari. It's a cool game.

4. That's great!

5. Yes, I've been playing those games without a computer monitor stand till recently. Honestly, I don't fucking know how I've been playing so many games and doing other work without it. It's a game-changer

6. Yeah, and I need a refresher since I remember it was a quite cool game

We're on a great period of gaming! There are too many games coming out soon! They pushed back the release date of Eiyuden Chronicle, but I won't complain, if that gives the team more time to fix bugs and other stuff it's good :D

Jet Set Radio was one of those games that, back then, was hyped up and considered a fan favorite as time went on. But for some modern gamers today, it would be considered a garbage game. Sure, it's a bit clunky at times, but it was fun for me, at least. Then again, born in 1987, lived and breathed the 90s, still gaming to this day well into my mid-30s.

You just reminded me that I have a pizza recipe to perfect; I need a week to work with it, because yeast is such a pain in the ass. Yeah, the only consistency we get in the gaming industry is consumer hostility, and even that's constantly coming in more and more new flavors.

Yeah, and I mean, what's next? They gonna release some broken garbage, then sell the bugfix patches and additional content as a "Remaster"? Actually, probably yes; give it a few years. They already got people to PAY THEM TO TEST THEIR FUCKING GAMES instead of paying beta testers by making it sound all cool, like, "Here's a CLOSED Beta. Suuuuuper exclusive. Only you and several million other people will be in on it. PONY UP, FUCKER." Maybe they'll start DMCA-ing hacks and fangames, and then selling them as their own work, because they own the copyright, so now the fans will be paying to make the games, too.

I mean, I could put you in front of that Metroidvania wall as I bang my head against it, but eh. I do hate the term less than Character Action, because at least Metroidvania describes... like... ANYTHING AT ALL. Not a big fan of Shmup, either, because not only does it sound ugly, I'm fucking old; back in my day, a Shoot 'em Up could mean anything from a Scrolling Shooter to that light gun section in Bayou Billy; it's too broad.

Yeah, did a LOT of things you just CAN'T do in games; I was calling them assholes when they said they could only do it in 3 parts, but with a reveal like that (I've heard a few things), they really did need to split it up. Props to them for being able to keep that under wraps so long, too!

Holy fuck; YOU CAN DO THAT!?!?!? That sounds like one of those "cooking hack" videos that turns out to be a complete disaster. [Link] Apparently this one works, though!?!? I'm still trying to process this, but that would mean incredible things for the rom hacking community.

We don't even have DSL for 20 years out here; probably more like 15 or so, so yeah, it's REALLY bad out here. I have a soft phone for work, and if there's anything else going on with the Internet, my phone calls have this weird time dilation effect to them. Not even shitting you, though, I JUST finished the last of them last night, and that's with pretty consistently letting the downloads run overnight since I first bought them.

They're one of those companies that launches most of their games with it, and then remove it later, though I think Yakuza 3-5 and 6 straight-up launched with out it. Well, PC launched without it; it's a LOT harder to trace on consoles. That keeps happening lately; Devil May Cry 5 and Doom Eternal both did that.

It'll be mostly newer things for me now that I've finished that; I don't even have a frame of reference for what's left, to be perfectly honest. I did try Legacy of Kain, as well as the first Soul Reaver, and I just couldn't get into either of them. If we're including older consoles, though, I've got SMS and NES games that will be popping up soonish; I'd say that Wing of Madoola would probably be the oldest one, because there's something about the look of it that makes me think it's just barely post Black Box.

I did finally get the chance to watch that and... it was kinda like if Devolver made one of those cheesy local business commercials you see on public access channels. It's no Dentist Down the Lane, but it wasn't bad. [Link]

PRESENT. A scary PRESENT to envision; I was using a specific example that I'd heard about. Granted, it wasn't because they were entitled assholes - aforementioned brainwashing and whatnot - but these were grown-ass men that didn't even have kids. You're not wrong, though; one of the most enduring cartoons of the last 40 years is SpongeBob, and while there is plenty of SpongeBob merchandise, the show doesn't exist just to sell it, so much as they saw an opportunity to make fucking BANK. I think that's why it's lasted so long, too; my sister grew up on it, and now her... it's complicated, but I guess you'd call him a stepson is into it. The last thing I can think of that crossed entire generations would be stuff like Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, or Hanna Barbera. Now, I haven't even taught teenagers in close to a decade, so I have NO fucking idea what kids think is cool these days, but maybe it's not quite as bad as it was in the '80s? At least with cartoons, anyway; those cartoons do still have commercial breaks.

Uf... yeah, that price is a steal! ...just not for the person buying it. And even though you get to ride the boob dragon and boob joust the boob goblin in the boob arena- THAT'S IN JAPANESE!? My brain cannot process this.

Aren't they wonderful? Everybody's all about '80s shit, but '70s had WAY better decor. Maybe not fashion - you want gaudy, ugly neon colors that clash with themselves or ALL OF THE BROWN? - but the decor for certain. Speak my language!? You're full of it, Buddy; my ass does NOT speak Javascript! ...or any object-oriented language, for that matter; I never feel like I know enough about the parts that keep it moving, so I can never really get a handle on what I'm actually doing.

Awww, no fair; all we have is a TUI, so no stripes for me. What I've done instead is take the 4 sets of site boxes and color them like the four card suits (suites?) in the Black Velvetopia stage in Psychonauts.

That's a pretty long backlog! That's my case with JRPGs. I want to play a lot of them but there isn't enough time. I hope you come back to the AA series soon whenever you have the time in your hands, because it's not very long or boring, I reckon than in like 20 hours you can finish it.

I LOVE Zero Escape! Those games were the reason that I picked up AITSF and later NI. I played the trilogy on Summer '20. It was an amazing ride. About the relationship between AI and ZE, I think you can play AI without playing ZE before, it's not mandatory. There are some easter eggs, but the world is completely different.

I'll have to play it soon, since I picked it up on the Steam Summer Sale with AINI, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising and other games. You're the second person that recommends me the game, I'm very hyped about it.

That's cool! I heard Disco Elyisum is also crazy good, but nothing can beat good ol' Higurashi, it's a classic for a reason.

You're lucky - in my case I only own a desktop computer and a DSi/2DS, so most of my gaming time is in either one of those platforms.

Yeah, I started it back when I started 48459854 games and finished like 2. I remember I quit the game after the fifth star I think? So it's crystal clear that I'll have to restart, but I don't care, the game was quite fun and it had a lot of charm.

AA2 is a fine game, at least it's better than Dual Destinies. It's the weakest link in the original trilogy, but it's still a charming VN.

Don't rush it, play it when you feel like it, you're gonna enjoy it! It's a thrilling conclusion and it has an amazing final case.

In my region (Europe) it's also 30€ and it's not bad at all, but I wanted to prioritize some other purchases like AINI and Paranormasight because I've been craving the AI sequel since I finished the first game. I know about the cartridge version and that's great, at least it's better than a boring digital purchase. I hope you enjoy it, it's a very special and charming game.

Higurashi must be really good but I only watched the first season of the anime, and that was many moons ago. I remember I enjoyed it. And I feel you, there are many amazing visual novels but not enough time .

And yes, I want to play Mario RPG since I never finished my playthrough a decade ago. I think I'll do it soon because I'm done with the Mario & Luigi series for the time being and I wanna play the other Mario RPGs.

The Crossbell duology and Cold Steel I+II happen in tandem in terms of in-universe timeline. Zero/Azure were developed first so only sparse references are made to the Cold Steel events in them since they probably hadn't been fully mapped out in detail yet, but while playing through CSI+II you will see quite a few things like newspaper articles and even major story events that directly reference the current (very spoilery!) ongoings in Crossbell. I can't go into much more detail than that without going into spoiler territory, of course! And then Cold Steel III onwards take place about 3 years after Azure and CSII ended, so major events that happened all throughout the series up to that point are frequently referenced and continued on from. I still recommend playing the Crossbell duology first, not only because as games that were developed later, CS I+II reference Crossbell a lot more than Zero/Azure reference Erebonia, but also because it'll just feel much more natural to go directly from CSII to III! The main character remains the same from CSII to III, so going in reverse order would probably feel weird for you jumping back and forth between protags! That said, I played CSI+II before Crossbell myself since I played them well before Crossbell got its long-awaited translations, so it certainly can be done that way. But since times have changed and Crossbell is finally here, I think it would be most enjoyable to go in order now

Yeah, here's hoping P5T is good! It looks fun, but to be completely honest, I'm really not digging its artstyle. I hope the quality of the game itself can make up for that...or I get used to the artstyle

Great, I hope you enjoy continuing through AA! It's cool to see someone progressing through two of my absolute favourite franchises, reminds me of when I was first discovering and falling in love with them

Yes, I love Sky 3rd! It's probably the most divisive entry in the series, apparently even within Falcom itself, but I've always loved it. I think Trails has a really fun combat system and having a game with a heavier emphasis on dungeon-crawling and challenging fights was a nice change of pace, I think. Plus it drops a ton of really important lore that sets up for and pays off in future entries. And Kevin is just the greatest.

I hope you have as much fun as I did going through Zero, AA3 and the further entries from there in the future!

Definitely, playing Trails in the Japanese release order is really important. You don't *have* to play Zero and Azure before Cold Steel I and II, but from Cold Steel III onwards everything before that point comes to the forefront and you'll be missing out on a lot if you haven't played each arc!

Yeah, I don't care too much for Persona. I think P3, P4 and P5 are good, but I don't love them. I feel pretty ambivalent about the recent announcements, though a strategy game is cool. I loved Devil Survivor!

And I see Ace Attorney and Ghost Trick discussion going on here, too πŸ‘€ I love the AA series, and Ghost Trick is probably my favourite story in any game I've ever played. I've used Missile as my avatar on several platforms

I'm glad you've been enjoying the game! I agree with you, moving around is kinda annoying but it's quite manageable; it's the usual thing you may expect from a GBA/DS game. At least it's pretty cool, but AA3 is the best game in the whole trilogy. When I played it, I was on the edge of my seat for most of the final case (Farewell, my Turnabout is also really good). In fact, I beat both AA2 and AA3 in a single week lmao.

Also, AA2 is the weaker game in my opinion. I hope you play AA3 soon, it's really good!

I would like to buy Ghost Trick, but the price is a bit steep for a DS game. It could be way pricier, though (looking at you, SE remasters lmao). I might pick it up in the future when they make better discounts. At least I own the original trilogy and I played GT on my DS two years ago. It's one of my favorite Nintendo DS games and one of the best stories I've ever enjoyed.

....now I wanna play GT again, but I'd like to play Umineko and other stuff like Mario RPG before....
