Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People: Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People - Episode 5: 8-Bit Is Enough
A delightful return to form that simultaneously refines and refreshes the gameplay. Good story and challenge progression.

Chrono Cross
I've been trying for 7-8 hours, and I still can't get into this game. Gameplay is contrived; the only characters I care about are the dog and clown.

OH! RPG!
Fun premise, and a decently interesting story so far. Not sure how I feel about micromanaging item upgrades, and the combat feels restrictive. Achievements: 3 / 8 (38%)

New Year's Resolutions 2017

The general consensus among my friends is that 2016 was one of the worst years in recent memory, marred by a seemingly endless string of celebrity deaths and characterized by a viciously divisive election that was more personal than political. For me...

Hey! Thankyou so much for accepting my Multitap request! I am a huge nerd for the Megaman series so looking at your page puts me in my happy place, haha. I also enjoy reading the reviews you've made! :'DDD

I hope you enjoy MMBN 4 more than you did #3, I think is quite an improvement.
I am looking forward to Starting #5 soon/eventually. I am currently going through all the Final Fantasy.

*** Also, I am extremely jealous that you have the first two Battle Net games and Starforce.

In total honesty, the part you're at is where I just STOPPED dead in my tracks for a few months; didn't have much desire to pick up the game at all. The very beginning had me hooked, and you're right around the big lull. Viper Manor wasn't really that exciting, but I'd already been spoiled on Viper Manor by the excellent Radical Dreamers; it just couldn't live up to that. The battle system is starting to open up to you, but the equipment's still kinda boring; the game gets off to a pretty bad start. There's unfortunately little to be done about the accents, because the game's code has an actual accent generator algorithm. No, really. And fuck Kid; never liked her, and she never grew on me, either. My first playthrough found me taking the steps to save her, for the sole reason that I'd never have to do anything nice for her ever again; she's awful.

But don't you worry; soon, Kid becomes kind of an afterthought. Sure, the story keeps bringing her up, but it's like someone walking in your footsteps while you're flying through the cosmos at warp speed; the voices become more and more distant and easier to ignore. Chrono Cross is Serge's story, and once you get to a certain dungeon, it starts to remember that. The game had been dragging me by the leash for a while, and once I arrived, EVERYTHING about my attitude changed; the atmosphere, the puzzles - shit - the MUSIC... everything just skyrocketed for me, and the damn game just DID NOT let up; once it gets its shit together, it keeps it there. I don't remember if that change is soon, but I willingly got the best equipment for all 45 playable characters; that was 7 or 8 full playthroughs; I just couldn't put it down.

Oh, I see you're playing Mega Man: Red Sun. Isn't that the one where he lands in Soviet Russia instead of the US, and it explores what life might be like if they could have actually carried out their ridiculous government policies? Or am I thinking of another guy in blue tights?

I see you have played Contraption Maker. Nice! On the same topic I've played The Return of the Incredible Machine: Contraptions and if you are interested in the concept and wanna hear some cool OST, I fully recommend it.

Ah good ol' Chrono Cross ... my brother and I obsessed over that game back in the day, maxing out characters and completing every side-quest. There are A LOT of unnecessary characters, but each is charming in his or her or its own way. Makes me want to bust out the PS1.

I agree with the comment below; as you know, I've played a lot of JRPGs, and as far as what the Playstation has to offer, Chrono Cross is my absolute favorite; #5 of ANY system; I love it like I love semicolons. It starts off with a pretty interesting twist (and not just one of those cheap shock value twists; they actually do quite a lot with it), and honestly, there is a bit of a lull after that, but once you get to Fort Dragonia, it picks up and doesn't stop. I actually like it a lot better than Chrono Trigger, because while Chrono Trigger was the "Feel-good roller coaster ride of the century," Chrono Cross is deeper and more grounded in its approach. Chrono Trigger is fun, but very... I don't know; irresponsible? It's the game that I usually blame for all these damn chaotic-good JRPG protagonists, saving the world with the power of love and friendship. Chrono Cross is the underrated, more sullen Secret of Evermore to Chrono Trigger's Secret of Mana. It's probably best not to think of it as a Chrono Trigger sequel, at least initially; the game will remind you when it's time.

The battle system gets more interesting as you progress, too.

don't give up on Chrono Cross man. It's not trigger, that's for sure - but it still has so many things going for it.
No matter where you go, there you are.
