Mini Golf Resort

Guru Morpheel here to talk about Mini Golf Resort for the 3DS, by Teyon. My previous experience with a mini golf game made by Teyon wasn't exactly a positive one, being 101 Minigolf World for the DSi. It was an extremely rough ...

I'm down for Zelda DLC as long as Nintendo treats it as an old fashion expansion pack. They seemed to do this (sort of) with Mario Kart.

I'm all for DLC in any game if it gives us more content... not skins or a slightly better sword/armor/ect. Lets get a large new area or dungeon and a bit of story progression from our DLC!

Hmm... it sucks, but most of these games can be beaten in one sitting. It's better than nothing.

At least PS+ gives you tons of free shit with it, and sometimes really cool shit. (Dragon's Crown, Muramasa, SSF4 Arcade Edition, Maverick Hunter X, Dragon's Dogma, Hotline Miami, Zero Escape 2, Strider, RE Remake...? I think it's fucking cool indeed.)

I wonder, what did you expect from the Switch Direct?

Also, what's wrong with paying to play online?

Oh, so that's really a thing, huh? A very dear friend of mine described the switch as, "Is that the same new system that they're going to be booting a few half-cooked ROMs on at sketchy prices that I saw too?
It might be a new handheld one? I can't remember." I didn't quite understand what she'd meant at the time... Shit, at least Playstation Plus lets you keep the things, if you keep paying... and they're usually new games, not something you've been playing for the last 30 fucking years already. Yeah, I like Adventure of Link; one of my favorite damn Zeldas of all time. But I already have it.

Zelda looks like it has potential, but Skyward Sword left such a bad taste in my mouth that I'm treading with caution this time. That's Skyward Sword the game and the fan reaction; the way people talk, you'd think that Nintendo hadn't just pushed out a game that was pretty unfinished. I'm glad to hear that it's still coming to the Wii U, though; I don't have a Wii U, but it's nice that fans won't have to shell out for a new console just to play the Zelda they'd already been promised. It seems like this Zelda is an attempt to return to form that actually lets you explore on your own again, which is a great idea, if they can pull it off. Thing is that my brother-in-law is kind of a Zelda fan - he had a Zelda-themed wedding - so you know he's going to get the game; if I want to play it, he and my sister live only a 20-minute walk from my house, and he's already offered to let me borrow his XBOX-360 and Darksiders 2, so he'll probably let me play it, if I really want.

Yeah, the New 3DS was a stroke of evil genius, if I've ever seen one. "Hey, buy a New 3DS. I know you have a 3DS, but this one's better. Oh, come on, you do want to be competitive at Smash Bros. multiplayer, don't you?" Really, they knew damn well that people would shell out if Smash Bros. was involved; whether you're a fan of Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mother, Star Fox, Pokemon, or some obscure-ass NES game that nobody's even mentioned for 20 years, you love Smash Bros.

In this day and age, it's generally best to wait a few years to see if a console gets a decent library before buying one. Hell, I'm just now starting to consider a PS4, and I'm sure the PS5 isn't far off. [Link]

I'm kinda with you on the Switch; I just watched the thing last night. I mean, I'm not that upset about having to pay for playing online, because everyone is doing it, but I thought it was just as stupid when Microsoft and Sony did it. I'm fortunate in that I don't really play online hardly ever, so it's no big loss. I usually prefer single-player experiences, because you don't need others to enjoy it, and they exist long after the servers go down. It generally breeds better games - at least in theory - because it means that you can make something that people will want to play 10 years down the road, so some developers will strive to make something that you will want to play 10 years down the road. I know the thing is for developers to pump out games that you'll like just long enough that they can pump out another by the time you get bored; it's less work that way.

The game lineup doesn't look great, either; you have an okay-looking Mario game, Mario Kart 8: Buy it Again Edition, another Splatoon, that boxing minigame from Super Monkey Ball with motion controls, a few games that are already out on other systems, and Zelda. Skyward Sword left such a bad taste in my mouth that I wanted to chew on broken glass, just to replace it with the taste of blood, though I'll reserve judgment for now, because if you can bounce back from Ocarina of Time to something as good as Wind Waker, then hope is not entirely lost.

It does seem like an excellent concept, being a handheld that is not only as powerful as a console, but also IS a console that you can hook up to any TV. My gripe, as with the Wii U, is the controller. The Switch has a great idea with a flawed execution; those mini controllers snap into the sides of the thing to make it into a portable system, but they're so damn tiny (as are their little L and R buttons) that I feel like I'm going to break the damn thing. I say this being 5'2"; I'm not a big gal. I find the X-Box controllers to be too damn big for my tiny hands. I feel like this concept could really work if they baked it a little longer, and had a good library to go with it, but it's not like I'm finding that great library with any of their competitors, so...

I'm kind of bummed out on the Switch too. Fire Emblem Warriors, Xenoblade 2, and the Shin Megami Tensei game have my attention but I really don't expect any of them to come out soon.

I don't mind them paying for online if it's well-featured enough. But I don't find the "here have an SNES game.. For a month then we take it back" to be any kind of incentive at all.

I DO like that all these games you can just scoop it out of the dock and take them with you. That's pretty cool. It just needs time for system-selling games it looks like.

I'm also a little salty they're using an Nvidia chip since I like AMD so much more as a company, but that's kind of a nitpick xP

Switch = Wii U 2.0

I will not be paying for online. I am quite happy and content playing my single player game experiences like BotW.....which I'll be playing on my Wii U.
