It does the "camera is perpetually six inches from your back and off-center" thing I don't love, but otherwise pretty impressed with the intro.

That's good to know! I've certainly been enjoying myself so far. Things seem to have taken a bit of a darker turn now. Can't wait to see what else is coming up in this game!

Starmen was probably the first game-specific community I ever encountered, even before I discovered GameFAQs and the message boards. I always associate it with the "early" internet.

Agree on all fronts. I didn't actually finally play Undertale until late 2021. I was waiting for the hype to die down, but I also had too much else I wanted to play (which, I mean, goes without saying since I'm here).

I wouldn't recommend the "classic" GTA titles unless you utilize some of the cheats to make the game less unfair, and even then, it's probably not worth it. The first game and its expansions are very nostalgic for me, as they were some of my first Playstation games, but they don't play well at all. The missions are unforgiving, the game demands speedy, precise driving that the engine just isn't built for, and the limited lives and inability to retry missions or save means you can lose a lot of progress if one little thing goes wrong. The soundtracks are pretty great though (probably where the nostalgia comes from, for me)

Hello. I appreciate your contribution to the conversation.

I don't have an issue with the games themselves. On their own, they're well made games. For Undertale, I'll give credit where credit is due and say that Megalovania is a good song. My issue with the Mother series, as shallow as it must sound, is that they are as annoyingly popular as they are. I do remember during the days of Brawl when the series was slowly beginning to lose its cult status up until it got put on the Wii U, when more people would be able to play it. I do remember Kotaku putting out an article every year around E3 time desperately trying to persuade Nintendo to bring Mother 3 over to the States, but let's not forget Undertale was huge and is more or less a contributing factor to the age of people worshipping EarthBound because of its association. Suddenly, people were making hour plus long thinkpieces about how it was the ultimate cult classic (it's certainly not cult anymore and hasn't been for years) or the dark aspects of it, trying to look for hidden meanings that may or may not be there (Yes, I'm aware that the Giygas background almost looks like a fetus), and when it wasn't that, people ravenously demanded that EarthBound get put on Switch Online, because whenever they didn't, well, [Link] why bother to broaden your horizons when you could just play EarthBound again, the same EarthBound that already got rereleased three times by that point? (It eventually did, so good, I suppose.)

However, it pretty much all boils down to that it's more of a me issue. I'm somebody who played tons of 16-bit RPGs that got overshadowed because people wouldn't stop raving about Chrono Trigger and EarthBound. Disingenuous hidden gem and collector videos aside, I have fonder memories of playing the Shining Force and Phantasy Star games, and when it comes to US released Super NES RPGs, Paladin's Quest and the two Lufia games are ones that come to mind. Heck, even Final Fantasy III US doesn't seem to get the attention in the same way that CT and EB did (unless you count putting Kefka's laugh in Sonic.exe or something.) Again, this is all just me. If you enjoy the EarthBound series, that's great, don't let me hinder your enjoyment. I'm just saying... there's more than just EarthBound. There always were, even back then.

PS: If you enjoy the quirky aspect of EarthBound, Robotrek is pretty good. Do check that out if you can, maybe through emulation.

There's actually quiet a few games that I have played and completed, but real world things take my time away to mark completions in a full sense or if they were just "beaten". In fact, 2015 to 2020 I had taken a hiatus from using the internet (an internet detox thing) but I kept track of games I have added during those years on a notebook and would add later on. To this day I am still going through some of my games list (mostly in the PC category) and deleting the few that I no longer possess and marking games I have beaten or completed, while some are set in the Formerly Owned category.

I don't really pay attention to the site's "Memory Card".

I am still working through my PC list cuz most of my PC content are Japanese-based and are mostly either doujin games or visual novels (or a mix of both). Half that number are eroge (18+) so I've been marking off each one in the comments of each entry as either (Doujin Game) or (Visual Novel) and any that are adult-rated have the (18禁) tag added in the comments.
