GWFES= Game Wave Family Entertainment System
APF= APF M1000

The Game Wave came out in 2006 and didn't receive much press. The only place I ever saw the system was in Toys R Us. To my knowledge GameStop never had it and I know that Wal-Mart didn't. The system only has 13 games in it's library....of which I now have 9.

The APF M1000 was released in 1978....a bad time for companies looking to compete in the console market.....especially if that company doesn't have the funds to throw at it. The APF was caught in the wake of a tidal wave called the Atari 2600 and was quickly swept away. Like the Game Wave, the APF was an outsider and coincidentally also only had 13 games released.....of which I now have 10.

Okay...I didn't realize that your mom was a teacher. At least it gave you access to computers....which is awesome by the way.

If you had extra blank floppy disks, you may be able to rewrite the games for the C64 typing in the command lines one by one. I forget how you access the file command lines (LIST perhaps...not sure). Back in those days games were easy to copy within the same framework but I don't know for certain if you can copy from Apple to Commodore. The prospect does sound exciting to me though. If I had an Apple II, I definitely would give it a go.

You are fortunate to grow up in a home with a personal computer. The first PC I had was one I bought for $1.200 when I was 20. It was an IBM PS/1. I made the mistake of giving it to my brother and his wife. She managed to somehow delete the OS and then deleted the recycle bin. When I found out, she claimed that her 2 year old son did it. That was a bunch of nonsense though as he was too young and naive. I still remember him looking up at me land I could tell that he had no idea what she was talking about. She is such a liar.

Anyway.....Do you still have the Apple IIgs?

Back when the Atari 2600 was THE system to have, games like Pitfall! and Q*bert could really break the bank! I remember one Christmas my brother got Q*bert ($49.99) and we shared Pitfall!($52.99). My mom was only making $4.25/hr so you can see how much of a sacrifice that was for her. Perhaps this is why I have such an affinity for classic retro systems and games. Most of them were so out of reach at the time. Now they cost less (in most cases) and engender feelings of nostalgia. I see them as a means of transporting me to another time.....

Admittedly back then computer games were quite expensive. In fact, all electronics, peripherals, and games were. Most people couldn't afford a computer and were struggling to afford gaming systems. Cost and the presence of video game consoles are two reasons why there were way more computers in schools than in homes for quite a while.

In this day and time,..... Never mind...I was starting to feel a soapbox coming on....Better to stop.

I actually acquired the floppy disks a few years back in an eBay auction. At the time I was doing the leaderboard stats for the Candid Collector's Union (so I suppose it was more than just a few years LOL). Since the disks all had multiple games on them and had been copied from originals, I debated whether I would add them in or not. .

Last night I was searching on eBay for Super Bowl Sunday (the manager's disk) on the Commodore 64 and remembered that I had acquired this stack of 74 Commodore 64 disks in an auction. I had packed them away in a box (like 98% of my collection is right now) and fortunately found the box in a place that I could get to it. Yeah the Blockbuster racks that you have seen in my collection photos are still disassembled and the games stacked in 1 wall 5ft high and 2 walls that are 8ft high.

Anyway I decided to look through them for the manager's disk but didn't find it among them. Finally I rationalized adding them in on Backloggery with the stipulation that I would only pick one game per disk. Most of the disks are crammed with games but some had utilities. What you see on Backloggery is just the games I picked out. There are a lot more but I couldn't justify counting them as well. It was quite a stretch for me to add them in at all but they originally were on disks.....just not those particular ones.

So now I have over 10K games! I never thought I would get to this point. If my collecting addiction could be made into a movie I would probably call it "10001 A Video Game Odyssey". Seriously though.....I must be a nut to have all of these games and have only played a fraction of them. Can I even play them all in the remainder of my lifespan?
