Here is two tips:
- Don't spent to many gp on stuff from Norende just yet. The equipment is great, but at the point you're at also overly expensive.
- Don't grind too much until you reach Chapter 4 and head for the Earth Crystal. There is a good grinding spot in Chapter 3, if you really need some quick and dirty levels, but I would keep grinding to a minimum. Reason: I've "wasted" many hours grinding in supposedly nice spots just to realize that one chapter later there is a spot that is way better and would've been a time saver.

I think you were right after all. You don't need to grind a lot. I've done it after I lost to a few bosses and it worked just fine.

But now I'm at a point where I just want to grind a lot. My Norende Village is growing strong (24 population) and the items from the weapon and armor shops get so much more expensive. And additionally I picked 3 jobs for each of my characters so far (and now I've got a new one) and train them to unlock some abilities.
