I am a retro gamer. I am 16 years old, and I love NES games! The best NES game of all time is Battletoads! Other games worth noting are Castlevania III, Contra, Super C, Mega Mans 1-3, and many more. (Check out my NES backloggery for more awesome NES games)!
My favourite genre of games is platformer, and the NES does a damn good job of producing these types of games!
I generally like hard games. Everyone likes a good challenge, right...
*Sigh*, unfortunately not. Some people are just too big of wusses. No, I'm not talking about people who just prefer easier games, I'm talking about people who just complain and whine about classic games and say they're way too hard. What pisses me off even more is when people say the graphics suck on the NES. The games were primitive back then! Expecting good graphics back then is like expecting a caveman to make a chainsaw! It wasn't possible!
Now that that rant is over, let's get positive; anyone should give some NES games a shot. Even if you think they're too hard, just keep trying. It gets easier. It's definitely a major adjustment from modern games because NES games are much faster, and definitely more punishing, but just keep plugging away at them. It's a great experience, and when you beat one... there's just no better feeling... (Except for an orgasm). Erase any feeling that you have towards the graphics, because that really doesn't matter. Just tell yourself that you will have fun with them, and you will. (Just stay away from the dumpster side of the NES, because I will not deny that there are is a ton of crap on the system; Castlevania II, Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Dragon's Lair... AVGN can help you avoid those games XD).
I hope this speech has helped some people be a little more open to the idea.
I do include hacks in my Backloggery, but not all of them. I include ones that I find to be significant, and they can be found in my PCDL section. If a hack is extremely high quality, and is worthy of being called a game of its original game's console, I do occasionally include them in the section, but it also needs to have some sort of personal connection. If I think it's not better than the original, than it's disqualified. For example; I absolutely love Contra: Revenge of the Red Falcon because I love Contra, but there are obviously hacks with more ASM hacking. It's my choice in the end.
Now a bit about myself. I'm a casual gamer for the most part, but I do a little bit of speed running. I speed run Contra. My best time is 11:27. I've also looked into speed running Battletoads, but I haven't gotten a full run yet.
Other hobbies I have are in the musical area. I love music! I've attempted making musical acapellas of a variety of things, including video game music. I also have perfect pitch, which is both a gift and a curse.
