That was a really good year for the Genesis to shine, wasn't it? There was quite a push to show just what the Genesis could do despite the competition from the Super NES at the time, and despite all that I'm glad the console had an opportunity to show off how strong it could be in its own right.

Ranger X I really need to try sometime. It always looked great in the game mags talking about it but I never got the chance or have made the time. I've heard good stuff about it, so I expect it to be a fun experience. I remember SFIICE being a bit of a big deal around the time it was being developed too, and EGM published an article talking about it, hyping it up. And I personally like the art in both of the first two Bare Knuckle games equally. But then, I did some growing up with them more than SOR3.

I also really enjoyed Haunting. Electronic Arts played a role in helping the Genesis glow back in the early 90s, back when they were a pretty likable company. I spent quite a lot of time with the first two Road Rash games and Starflight, and I can count Haunting among that too. I wouldn't mind giving it another try; it was very interesting to play when I got the chance, even if it was via an emulator.

How is General Chaos, though? Now that you bring it up, I'm a bit curious about it. I looked it up and they say it's good, but I never touched it as a kid because I didn't have the patience for strategy games. But as an adult, I could probably appreciate it better.

I'm one of the few who really liked Panic on Funkotron. Very different from the first game, but despite the difference in genre, it is still a polished game and worthy of a look. I particularly like the art and graphics; it's all very colorful and well-drawn, so they put a lot of care into giving the alien boys' world plenty of personality. One of these days I need to resume my game of it on the Sega Genesis Classics compilation.

I do very much enjoy the first game, but it's not without some fair annoyances, particularly in the later levels where it's paramount you hold onto presents that give yourself something to run away or fight back with when levels have exactly one type of enemy everywhere you go (like bogeymen)... which isn't easy when there's multiple moles chasing you down and large tracts of sand. Still a wonderful game to play, but a real pain in the ass.

"Comfort food" is a pretty good analogy to describe it. I can think of a few other games I have played that give me the same impression and I always find myself coming back to now and then. Vice: Project Doom, for example; it doesn't do anything that pushes the envelope but it's still a perfectly enjoyable game in spite of that and everything it sets out to do is well done, so I always have a good time giving it another run.

I wound up liking Kid Chameleon more than I thought I would, even after beating it. So long as you keep aware of the path you're taking as you teleport from level to level, it's quite fun and it's neat how it was constructed. I wouldn't mind giving it another go someday in the future.

Definitely don't want to end up in the Bloody Swamp level again though. Oof. Having maps to refer to is a big save.

Starting a new Mega Drive Marathon to show some love for my favourite console of all time. Plan is to play two games per year, starting in 1988 all the way to 1996. SEGAAA

Ahhh, man, Starflight... I was absolutely fascinated by that game as a kid, back when I was playing it on a Genesis console. It felt like your very own Star Trek, and there was something fun about going from planet to planet, farming minerals for cash and dealing with aliens, both peaceful and violent. Granted, I could never beat the game... but someday I should make an earnest effort to do so. The Genesis version was always really good, better than the original PC release, but that's just my opinion.

It may not be a perfect game, but for me, it was an adventure I really enjoyed even if I were playing it blind. But then it's not like I knew what I supposed to be doing other than trying to find good planets for colonization and there was a time limit.

I definitely enjoyed what I played of No Man's Sky, but I'd be lying if I said I'd gotten very far. Maybe about 5-10 hours in. I have an eternal problem of wanting to play too many games at once.

A lot of games have done large AAA set pieces since Uncharted 2, including the Uncharted series itself! It was acclaimed at the time, but the thing about graphical showpieces is that those always get done better down the line.

"Got my Ocarina. Every NPC in this game hates me and the feeling is mutual. " So accurate. Good luck! BTW, play the song of time in reverse to slow the passage of time; that can be a crucial difference in making progress.

Allow me to be among the vocal minority of people who doesn't like Majora's Mask. You say ou're going to play it, but your one star rating suggests you aren't hot on it either.

True, we both joined in 2008, me just several days later after you, how 'bout that.

Perhaps I'll give Blood Omen a look at some point and give it a good whirl. Thanks for your assessment. Sometimes I can get behind games that try their own spin on the Zelda formula.

How is Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain? I was always sort of curious about that game when I read about it in game mags back around the time it was released, and thought about playing it but never got around to really giving a try and eventually forgot about it. I heard it's a good game, but wasn't sure if it'd appeal to me.

Cyber-Lip! I was playing that some time ago. Still a good game, in my opinion, especially for what is essentially SNK's take on a Contra-like game for the Neo Geo. Would like to give it another spin at some point.

Shining in the Darkness! Nice.

Like Draconis, I also really love that one and I always enjoy playing it from start to finish now and then. Probably one of the best dungeon crawling RPGs on the Genesis, but I'm a bit biased.

Hope you're enjoying it!

Shining in the Darkness is another favorite of mine! I've completed it at least three separate times along the years. Even though it's a basic dungeon crawl, it's done real good. Love its aesthetics and the crafting aspect. Always liked to mess around with the forbidden box whenever I got that.

As a side note, the best weapon for Milo can be found as a rare drop from the Gollums on level 4 of the labyrinth proper.
