I'm amazed at how good this game is. I'm more amazed by the OST. I wish I could find a place to buy it. Playing as Zelda only to prove a point.

As much as I wanted to keep playing the games I know and have beaten in the past, I felt it necessary to start something that I haven't played or beaten before to experience it, finally. The combat in this game is interesting. The stun locks are triggering, but overall, I'm enjoying this game.

FF7 really has me thrown. I recognize the historical value of the game and as someone who cares deeply about game history, FF7 is as important as they come. But, I don't really like the original - it's got a LotR effect for me. Similar to Lord of the Rings, by the time I'd gotten to the material I'd experienced too many derivations of it that had improved on the formula or otherwise built upon it, so the original felt underwhelming. FF7 was one of the last ones I played and beat, so I had a harder time vibing with some of the design choices. Choices that needed to be made, granted, for the sake of carving out the modern JRPG, but still choices that don't all hold up (I'm talking about the funky dialogue, the overpowered Materia combos, the missables).

Yet, the FF7 remake is exciting me to my Gamer Core lol. I dismissed it originally because the fans are somewhat obnoxious (that's casting a broad net but for the sake of brevity). Once I saw the gameplay though, my tune changed entirely. Might even be a day 1 buy for me now.

I must have missed Crystal Chronicles coming to mobile. That's a great idea, the gameplay is simple enough to work on the platform and ease of access opens up more multiplayer. I only played the DS game very briefly but I'd be down af to get into it in full.

Romancing SaGa is the only one I played, and albeit briefly, it stuck with me in a big way, enough that I recognize some of the SaGa DNA in Octopath Traveler. I'll likely play those as well.

Breath of the Wild "2" is the announcement that's going to ferment in the back of my head for a while. Is Zelda playable? Is this going to be an AI partner situation? Will we have team-based puzzle solving or, heaven-willing, multiplayer? I agree about the Twilight Princess vibes, my first comment while watching was actually that some of that black miasma and the backwards speech reminded me a lot of the Twilight World, and it's one of the "universes" we haven't explored further.

I very much want Breath of the Wild to be the start of a combined Zelda narrative. Show me hints at the Dark World, show me skeletons of the evolutionary ancestor bridging Zora to Rito, show me echoes of things I've done in the older games. BotW is already so close to my personal ideal, it just needs to take a few more steps.

It's kind of interesting to me that my tastes in games have flipped almost completely since I graduated in 2017 and got a "real" job and all that. I scoffed at anything but strategy games and RPGs but now I mostly like simple games. I've actually removed tons of games from here to the point that there's hardly anything left because my old staple genres keep slipping from my interest. I thought I was losing interest in the hobby as a whole, but I think now that my tastes are just different - I'm more excited for the new Animal Crossing than anything else from E3.

Speaking of E3, did you watch/what are your thoughts? I'll put mine in spoiler tags in case you haven't seen it yet.

Dragon Quest protagonist in Smash is really cool for me, Erdrick especially. I'm empathetically happy about Banjo because I know how many fans he has, but I personally am indifferent, though I do want to see how he plays for myself. The only character left I want added is Paper Mario.

Breath of the Wild sequel is a welcome surprise, but I know better than to get excited over promo material so I'll want to see more. Cautiously optimistic.

Fire Emblem comes out in a month, that's very nice, though I'm hot and cold on recent FE games. I'll wait to see fan reception since I'm pretty tuned into the community and know their tastes.

FF8 remaster is nice. It's been close to a decade since I played FF8, and my opinion of it then was negative, but I'm willing to give it another shake.

I'm pretty pleased overall with how the new Pokemon game plays. It's legitimately been a great execution in marrying oldschool with updated, current gen functionality. Really smooth game. Sadly, I will pass on the pokeball. controller. It looks so adorbs though!!

I legit got bored of transferring Pokemon, and I executed that function at a time when I realized they were all a pain in the ass to catch. I might revisit it for the version exclusives. That much about it, IMO, makes it purposeful enough since this might remain to be one of the few Pokemon titles I don't try to buy both copies for.

I had Octopath for a long time before finally getting into it a month or two ago, and I really love it. I'm near the end of several of the stories now, and there haven't been any that I didn't like.

I can dig that. It's hard to play JRPGs and not have a little resistance to tedium, so that doesn't sound too bad at all. Although, my patience seems like it's been wearing out with games lately. Persona 5 is the only newer JRPG I've played in recently memory that I thought was a total knockout, but otherwise I just can't seem to finish up a JRPG these days. Could be that my job now is more mentally taxing so I lean towards simpler games for leisure, and I've been enjoying a lot of pick-up games of Mario Kart and Smash and whatnot.

It doesn't negate the repetition as a design choice, but it might be more pleasant to turn the voices off every so often or change the voice language. I do that in Breath of the Wild and preferred the Spanish voice cast of all things. If I'm level grinding, I'll usually turn my game volume off completely and listen to a podcast instead.

I can understand. Sometimes I miss the less convenient forms of communication. This isn't meant to discourage you from reaching out even 1%, but being available at all times gets really taxing on me sometimes and I'll turn my phone off. I quit using Twitter and Facebook for similar reasons, communication overload. I miss logging on to see messages waiting for you on browser game websites, or being happy to see a friend log in to Skype. Now I can reach basically anyone on the planet at any moment, and I guess it feels less special. Or I'm finally getting old.
