Well, I hear this guy telling me everything I'm doing as I'm doing it; I stopped to smash things to get money (because that's what you do in Devil of War), and he says, "Kid just rages for awhile," and I thought, "Oh, it's Navi with a stylish voice; this guy's begging for the mute button." It got better, though, and now, I really like his presence. I'm actually listening to the soundtrack right now, realizing how damn good it is. Not realizing it during gameplay is also to its credit, because it means I was engaged enough to be paying more attention to the game than the music; same thing happened with Mega Man 10. Since our last chat, I developed a love for the carbine, too; it doesn't round out my loadout quite as well, but it's fun to use, and fits the Wild West theme really well. I AM A GODDAMN COWBOY... girl cowboy... whatever; it's fun. The hammer's really good in conjunction with the shield, I think, but I generally kill much quicker with the pike. I think my first experience with it must've been Chrono Trigger; looking for those damn tabs, I started seeing sparkles EVERYWHERE.

I just watched the videos for both of them at GOG, and I'm really not sure what to make of either, so I'll probably do just that. I've heard of Pyre, but it's apparently not the game I was thinking of, so maybe I just remember the name.

Sweetie, I sometimes go for more than a week without sleeping; rambling is usually in good company around me. I'm a little jealous, though; I used to work the night shift on a long-term care pharmacy's fill floor, and I loved it. This day shift, getting-up-before-11 nonsense is for the damn birds... early birds, I'd imagine.

It was a little rough in the beginning, but once I got it together, I really started liking it. As much as I'm complaining about the minigames, they aren't just meaningless garbage, like in Zelda; most do a great job of not only teaching you how best to upgrade your weapons, but also how to use them effectively. I was so relieved to be finished with the shield one, but didn't I find myself countering most every damn thing for a good 5-7 stages after that. I think I'm getting close to the end, but I could see myself taking it around again. When I first looked at it, I thought Zelda, but actually playing it, it's more like if God of War had Zelda's camera; it's another one of those games like Darksiders that I didn't realize that I'd always wanted until actually playing it. And man alive, do I dig that vaguely Wild West theme it has going; love that narrator! I found him annoying at first, but the game has style! Good thing I got to liking him, too, because he's been stuck in my head, narrating my entire day today. "The matron rolled out of bed and stumbled half-naked downstairs to fix herself a breakfast of milk and pills. Mornin' really kicked her in the head." No, alcohol was not involved.

Keeping in mind that I'm still missing the last weapon/arm (don't know which it is), what kind of build do you like? I'm using the pike and the musket; great damage, keeps enemies at bay, and you can hit hard over a long distance with the pike, and the musket is excellent for crowd control.

I've heard that. How is Transistor? It actually looked more interesting to me than Bastion originally had, but I wanted to try Bastion first. Is it the same basic game with a different theme? Because I could totally get behind that.

Truthfully, I think I have a little hipster cred in this case, since I never really liked zombies to begin with; I always just saw them as low-level enemies that show up in early levels of this game or that, and that's it. When the whole zombie craze started, it was as strange to me as a Survival Horror game set in the Mario universe, populated by nothing but goombas. That said, there's probably something I'm missing about the whole experience, as I've never had anyone who could adequately explain their appeal to me. Then again, I am ever the pop culture salmon, and not on purpose; I'm just wired differently from most people.

Thanks! Case Zero does look like it'd be one that I'd enjoy above the others, so maybe that's the one I'll look into. I'm still not 100% sure that the series is for me, because I really don't handle time limits very well, but that one looks like the best I've seen.

Ah sorry for the late reply malons.

It’s probably the best beat em up i’ve played in recent memory. Combat feels tight & fluid, tons of references so you’re constantly smiling when you get them & despite being kinda short it keeps wanting you to come back, getting a better score or trying to find secrets etc.

For the price you can’t go wrong & just recently the devs promised more free content which is great.

I haven't played too many of the Atelier games yet (there's a ton of them!), but the ones that I have played I've immensely enjoyed. I liked Atelier Ayesha so much that it is probably one of my favourite games of all time haha.

They're definitely not for everybody though. You have to be fine with a lot of visual novel sections that are mostly just character interactions for one. The other big thing I can think of is that the crafting is the main focus of the games, so if you don't like the crafting system, you won't really enjoy them that much. There is some typical turn-based RPG battles in them as well, but that's definitely not the main focus (and I find that part a bit annoying in some of them... the newer ones have improved on that a bit).

The games mesh really, really well with my tastes though. I love the music (really Gust's music is pretty much always amazing in general ha), the characters, going out and gathering junk to craft, and I love that the games don't tend to be that punishing (Totori got pretty tough near the end though). I'm probably going to try and play all (or nearly all) of them, but that will take a while since Gust likes to release a new one every year.

Anyway sorry if that's a bit rambly (I'm pretty tired). If you have anything in particular that you want to know about the series, feel free to ask
One becomes two as divine fission splits the ethereal light.
