It has been a lot of fun so far revisiting this game! One of my all time favorites as well. I do have all of the DLC but not sure how deep I will get into it this time. My time is quite limited now so mainly want to just finish the story and give Lightning Returns another shot. I never finished that one despite really looking forward to it. The timer mechanic really put me off back then but I'm really hoping I can see past that now and enjoy it.

New Mystery of the Emblem definitely didn't disappoint! This is how you do a remake, honestly. They added a lot of extra story to pad the less detailed plot of the SNES original and it all feels very natural. The Assassin story arc is really cool and its extra chapters don't even require you to kill off any units.

Looking forward to getting into Awakening now and getting to play something on my 3DS again! I'll be buying all the worthwhile DLC as well since I've not tried any the first time around. Same for Fates afterwards.

I imagine those DLC items are intended to make the higher difficulties more bearable, especially reverse Lunatic. Still, I like having options like these to give some units a bit of love when they are in need of it. The Rainbow Drop may as well be training wheels, in that sense. Until the growths kick in, anyway.

I do have to say that I love how they buffed growths across the board. A spread of 350-400 feels like a sweetspot where you're less likely to get screwed. A big difference compared to Shadow Dragon's 230-280, for sure.

I'll admit it was quasi-tempting, especially now that I'm more familiar with the Gambit System, but... nah. Too many other, better games to play, especially IX, but I'm at least open to completing it later on.

After only a few hours I can already say that New Mystery is how you do a damn remake that feels like it has a reason to exist! I love all this extra story, especially with the new My Unit. Everything else is so much better, too. Yeah sure battles still look ugly but whatever. At least they spiced up the criticals a bit!

One of those DLC items is a Growth Drop that gives +20% HP and +10% to everything else. Gave that one to Caeda because she deserves it for being the MVP in Shadow Dragon! This way, I don't have to feel bad about skipping Catria and Palla to use Caeda and Minerva. The other two are back to kick ass in Echoes anyway!

The Rainbow Drop DLC is also busted. +2 to all Stats for a whole chapter, you can freely buff up with it in battle preparations and it has 77 uses? Daaamn. My Unit could probably break even Lunatic in half with the Growth Drop AND that all the time.

It's certainly off to a good start! I found a save file that has all the DLC, so I don't have to miss out on that either. I also didn't know this one had a Reverse Lunatic Mode, where enemies always attack first. I guess that's a fun way to play if you hate yourself?

I did say MAYBE! But just like Radiant Dawn I was keeping an eye on various units and tools that could be exploited in the harder modes I chose not to do at this point in time.

Looking forward to trying out New Mystery of the Emblem now! I hope you didn't promise too much!

Wolf as a General is one reason I'd actually consider doing the harder modes up to H5 at some point when I might tackle all the "Lunatic"-type settings in FE. He's just that good! I think I ended up using more units than necessary with 12 this time, too. There generally aren't many enemies on each map so you could easily pour your EXP/resources into a few Elites, notably Marth, Caeda and Wolf. Infinite range Physic and especially Warp also let you do some crazy things to break the game. The final chapter is just begging to be warp-abused for a quick clear.

Heh, didn't notice that.

I'll probably be able to finish it in the next few days, and then I'll move on to my favorite in the series, which will be nice.

Did you ever use Wolf, one of those Horsemen that come with Hardin? I actually find the concept of a shitty pre-promote with omgwtf growth rates quite interesting and reclassing this guy into a General is just hilarious. Immediately has enough Defense to never take any physical damage and you can freely send him into reinforcement packs that would be annoying to deal with otherwise, so he's not even that big of an EXP hog. He's sitting at Lv14 now with 51HP/18Str/12Spd/26Def and just generally laughs at anything that tries to attack him. The game is short enough where the other units will never really take advantage of their extra potential levels for 20/20, so a unit like this that always stays ahead of the curve is really cool.

I believe that's the only thing I'm gonna praise about Shadow Dragon anytime soon, though.

I thought about an approach like that at first but honestly? I don't find Shadow Dragon to be worth the extra effort just because of its poor game design. I did the Prologue and just started over on H1 but those 4 Gaiden chapters can get lost. The idea of killing off almost all units I don't use given my final team of 12 doesn't sit well with me and those chapters are really just free easy EXP, items and new units because the game thinks you're so bad at it.

I also gotta say after the first few chapters that the units you get already suck on H1, so I don't even wanna see how it is on the higher ones. Double Attacks? What's that?

Linde and Merric were two I was considering, though they do need to be trained up and Linde does have less amazing growths to make it worth it. 0% Defense and no amazing Spd and Lck to balance it out wtf?? I might also use Barst and Minerva since she is an actual character with a personality. Underwhelming is definitely the word for these units, though. Radiant Dawn with all its badasses is the worst game to play before it.

Yeahh....I suppose you could argue that intentionally killing off units you'll never use to unlock content that should be accessible either way does not really count as a casualty in the traditional sense. Still, you need to actively kill off most of your damn army to stay at 15 units since you get so many! So annoying!

Do you happen to have some unit recommendations for Shadow Dragon for me? I'm planning my team right now and a lot of them seem to suck. Some that I used in FE01/FE03 don't even look viable anymore. Who served you well in your playthroughs thus far? Beyond Marth, Cain, Abel, Caeda and Lena nothing is really set in stone. Maybe some are better after a reclass? Although I don't like the idea of it, generally.

I'm also mildly annoyed that they added Gaiden chapters that can only be accessed if you intentionally kill units, so it's actually impossible to do a completionist, no casualties run. Those chapters can get lost, whatever. You can't even play the Prologue on any Hard Mode! I haven't even started yet and I'm already back to hating on this game.

The Speed Boost helps. Also the class-specific License Boards feel significantly less overwhelming, so it's actually been a bit fun to grind and play through it. The combination of these makes Zodiac Age MUCH better than the original, but you probably already know that.

The bad thing is that because of this, I've kind of been sucked into the game enough that I haven't done much Mother 3 recently, but my wife started playing Genealogy of the Holy War, so I'll definitely do more of that whenever she steals the TV.

Oh good the site is back so I can finally reply

Maybe we could talk him into throwing himself back into the Fade or something to skip the last boss fight like you can talk Saren into killing himself instead of fighting him

... Guess I'll have to play Persona 5 sometime so that I know what I'm talking about.

...Admittedly it was a somewhat low difficulty, but still, yeah, 2 Master Hand hits with Joker's Down-B up filled up his bar completely, and after that I just need to wail on him.

Oh, yeah, that's not so bad for FFX then.

I'm thinking I'll move back to my FF Marathon once SCVI is over. I'll still be playing Mother 3 (once I've fixed the problem with it), and I'll do everything in my power to keep FFXII in my radar so that I can move on to XV (and VI and IX) sooner. I have no idea what I'll think of XV, but one of my coworkers is playing IX right now for the first time, and listening to him talk about it and try to learn more about it has really tempted me to jump to IX. I'm doing my best to not do that and save it as a reward for getting through XII because I still don't really like it but want to at least finish this version to say that I gave it a shot.

He was pretty cool! His short sword has a bit less range than I was expecting, but I got used to it. I completely forgot about his down-b until Master Hand. On the plus side, using it then allowed me to destroy him in under 30 seconds, so that was cool.

Now I'm just waiting for the next character.

Also, good fortune to you on your path to FFX Platinum. I'm not sure if/when I'll have the patience to go for it.

I can feel my oldness.

Yeah, I was going to try him out, but then I found out he wouldn't be available until 10:45 (my time) and I decided I'd rather continue SCVI and then go to bed. So I'll try him out today after work.

What's "do not Steal(TM)"?

I'm definitely going after LoS next, though my first priority tonight is to try out Joker in SSBU.
