Well the nullifying isn't going to make much of a dent in my backlog. Different people use The Backloggery in different ways. Drumble only lists games that he intends to beat, and if there is a game he just doesn't like he deletes it from his list as he wants to keep it as a potential 100% completion list. For me, I wanted to chart 27 years of video gaming, so I've thrown everything onto it, which took a fair old time to do actually.

Now the full list is on, I have time to look at it and judge it more fairly. Some games I honestly don't think it was possible to call it beaten, so I'm putting them as null. Other games I hated so much (hello most of my Atari Lynx games) so I wouldn't have wanted to waste any more time on them. Some games I literally never played, like the time I bought all the Resident Evils for the GameCube as I planned to play them all in sequence. They don't feel unfinished to me, as they were more correctly unstarted.

I am being completely arbitrary in how I do this though, and some games are defiantly remaining as despite having never been played, and others that I did kick around for a bit might end up as simply because in my mind the game was just a casual fling rather than a proper relationship. I do need to do it on a case by case basis, and as inconsistent as it sounds it mostly makes sense to me. Mostly.

I'm still very much in favour of honesty in dealing with the Backloggery, and some older games I would never, could never mark down as . There are a selection of titles on every platform that I feel compelled to go back and finish once and for all, no matter how, which is why you'll see that I recently bought the XBLA remake of Banjo Kazooie. That's a decade old bit of gaming that I really should have put to bed, but I'm determined to do so. On the other hand, I spent a couple of hours playing BK: Nuts & Bolts and it left me cold. I'll have another session with it, but if I don't find the hook then I'm going to mark it as I really don't have the time to finish games I don't like. Hell, I don't have time to finish the games that I do ...

I must chase up my friend, he was going to make me an automated spreadsheet to calculate the Backloggerometer automatically. I'll give him a kick up the bum and see if he's done any work on it, will make it easier to see how things stand.

The Backloggerometer can be scary, especially if you have big gaps or lulls in your gaming history. It drops really quickly once you get into a new routine though, and some modern games are so quick to burn through that you can add a whole bunch of awards to your list in a month and find that you've actually carved a year off of your backlog.

I haven't calculated my Backloggerometer for a while, been really damn busy recently. Going to go through and null another bunch of games that I could never beat, or never wanted to, and then see how it stands currently. Not finishing anything in the last couple of months will hurt a little, I should have added 4 games to the pile in that time. Oh man, it's never ending. Still, I have my 360 back in the rotation, and the games on that thing are really easy to beat. Completing them is often impossible, but the sheer amount of shiny in these new games means they are over pretty damn quick. Makes up for the ridiculous amount of work I have to put into some of those Nintendo DS games, which seem to offer far too many gaming hours. Not that I really want to complain about that, but it sure seems backwards somehow.

Yeah, well, I used to have it and i can't find it. I'm not sure if i want to re-buy it since I didn't like ti that much, honestly.

Plus, we got the short end of the stick in North America.
