Oh, I remember those days. Not fondly, but I remember them. 16 hours a day, 8+ on Saturday, then running around like a decapitated chicken on Sunday, cleaning the house, performing finance MIRACLES, doing yardwork, and busting my ass at any side jobs I could get my hands on. Sleep? The fuck is sleep? Here's to ya!

Congratulations on the new son, too! I've never had one of my own, since none of my children are biological... or have ever met me in person.

I feel like maybe I found time to game once in a while, but I have no recollection of how or when. In your absence, I got this monster PC setup with dual monitors, a stereo system, and most importantly, a rainbow-glowing keyboard. So, I am begrudgingly on Steam, now, but I've solved the 8th Generation conundrum, and now, I don't need a new console. I mean, I'm missing God of War and Halo; I'll live.

Oh yeah, it's quickly become BotoPhucket; whenever I have time and am not working on all sorts of mad scientist projects until the wee hours of the morning, I'm going to have some mass pic exodus to some other site. I'm thinking Flickr for mine, but I haven't found one, myself.

Hello, my friend. Stay awhile and listen.

No, I did not draw that, the one thing that I can call my own work is my stream offline image ( [Link] )

I had it commissioned by hoboriss from this earlier image ( [Link] ). The most I did was the crop job on my avatar.

I know that in the PSX version of DQVII, you wouldn't get job points if you fought monsters that were far below your level, at least on Disc 1. The job system in this one seems a fair bit different though. I don't recall jobs mastering this fast, for one thing, but then again, it's easier to get into successive battles since the enemies are on the map.

I don't know how far you are in the game (I'm at the Buccanham lighthouse dungeon), but back in the PSX version, at the end of the game, the area around the World Tree was the best place to grind because it was all Slime family monsters, some of which were worth lots of EXP, some were worth lots of gold, and all of them were worth job points.

Oh. I didn't like Ys 1 and 2, but that's mostly because of the asinine combat system. Same goes for 4. Why the fuck they didn't stick with the system from 3 is beyond my comprehension. 6 seemed like it might be better, just because it has a fucking attack button, but apparently, they found myriad ways in which to fuck that up, as well. The more I think about it, too, Ys 5 is pretty incredibly average. The stories have never really been that strong in the games, so there's that, but the adventure is very run-of-the-mill. Stop me if you've heard this one before: You run around on the plains, through some forests, a couple of caves, and a desert with some ancient ruins. Fight the bad guys; collect the elemental crystals; get betrayed by the bad guys. I've read fanfiction with more creativity. I really like the combat system, but it's pretty standard; it's just better than the games before it, excluding 3. There's an alchemy system, where you find element stones that can be combined to make spells; it's a neat idea, but most of the spells are fucking worthless. You know, I think I just don't like the Ys series; I think I'm just a fan of Adol Christin. I've always thought he was cool, and I enjoyed the anime... however you pluralize that.

So yeah, thanks for saving me a lot of time and money. Also, I am SO using the term beefgate. I haven't yet decided if it's going to retain its original meaning or not.

So, I should save my money, then? I've been playing Ys 5, and I'm enjoying it well enough (it has a fucking attack button!); it's not as good as 3, but like you, I'm also of the opinion that the first game wasn't any good. I've been thinking - perhaps against my better judgment - that Ys 6: Ark of Napkins might be worthwhile investment.

Is the Steam port of Tales of Symphonia good? This is the first game in the franchise, right? Looks interesting and I have heard nice things about it over the years.

Not too painful. Its unfinished, boring tedium almost became meditative. But I now recall clearly why I forgot that game in favor of the much better games I got together with my first N64.

It genuinely looks interesting. Now that I remember correctly, the game was starbound, not stardew valley.

Stardew valley. I considered playing it but I heard it was just one of those bad "Minecraft-like" type of sandbox games.

It almost feels as if they designed the game solely around being able to publish it as a franchise game.

The game has nothing distinct of its own besides a castle theme, everything else is completely interchangeable with very little effort needed. Just replace a sprite or two, and everyone will think it's a game designed solely around that character!

Glad to hear that they hit the nail on the head in terms of making a clone that improves upon everything.
Let us experience things together. Nothing else matters.
