I think America has more of a issue with religious references than Japan and Europe does. Devil World (the Nintendo-developed game on Famicom, not the Konami-developed Arcade game that came out under that name in some countries) was released in Japan and Europe, but not in the US. we've never even gotten it on the Virtual Console here while it was re-released just fine in the other regions. strangely, all references to the game were kept in other games (including Melee, where a trophy of Tamagon was simply inaccessible unless you have a cheat device, while in the PAL version it was completely removed for unknown reasons), except for Captain Rainbow as that was never released over here. in all instances they refer to the game as "Japan-only"... as if NoA were unaware of the PAL release. the entire Parappa series was censored in NA to remove religious references from the lyrics (and even forced one WHOLE STAGE in Um Jammer Lammy to be changed and the cutscene before it to be reanimated, as said stage originally took place in hell) while the PAL releases were left untouched.

I'm surprised One Piece is still running, to be honest (only a few anime like Pokemon and Shin Chan beat it in total episode count). I saw a few clips of the FUNimation dub and I want to watch it, but man, all them episodes. I've never seen the OP manga.

Another game I found that was butchered was Tales of Hearts R. the game is Japanese-only, but the English subtitles do not at all match the original Japanese audio. some character names were changed (Shing Meteoryte became Kor Meteor, but the audio still mentions his original name), which wouldn't be TOO bad if that was ALL they did, but then they went and changed a lot of the lines (for example, in one scene, the subtitles in one scene say "Thank you", but Shing actually just said "Hisui...). it's like they were planning this script for a English dub, then decided to cancel making the dub... and use the script anyway.

Well, pretty much all religious references were toned down or removed ("Gods" are now called Creators). it'd be pretty much ignored if the lines were throwaway, but the game's story has something to with gods (well, more like advanced beings who are God-like, but yeah), so the references crop up quite a bit. and there were some other script changes, too. you can tell something was changed if you know even a little bit of Japanese (you can play with JP sub + English dub, for the record). strangely, while the PAL version was also censored, NoE's website had a more faithful translation of the backstory and the game was released almost 2 months before the US version. this makes me think that they were planning to localize the game in NoA's place before NoA stepped in (NoE also localized Xenoblade, which also has religious references, and they weren't edited for their translation). otherwise, why have two vastly different translations?

I wish I could find a comparison of the two scripts.

I consider dual-audio as a bonus.

If if it's not as bad as I thought, maybe I'm just going into the wrong places?

I've never watched harem anime (didn't know that there was such a thing growing up).

Wait, there's an anime?

Maybe once I've read a few more chapters. I've only read 2 so far (and there's over 150!).

Also, holy crap, what is that thing in the background of your banner? Looks like some sort of crazy cat/chinese dragon hybrid.
