To back up what Try said, they do have compatibility issues. There's a few games that it can't run without awful visual bugs and stuff. I actually have one.

It's a really fragile and cheap thing to boot, hardly worth the $50, but at least it works.

Yeah, I'm very much aware of such systems. I don't know the details, but they're definitely legal. I've read up on why, but I can't remember. Expired hardware patents or something? Unfortunately, while I believe those systems are mostly pretty good, they do have compatibility issues with certain games.

Maybe? I've heard of some people's computers that just won't run it, but that sounds to me more like a weird computer issue than a performance issue. But it's a fairly demanding game. But just because the benchmark doesn't run doesn't mean your computer isn't up to it. But unless you put some stuff in it with gaming in mind, I wouldn't count on it.

Heck yeah, FFVIII definitely has one of the best soundtracks in the series, possibly my favorite soundtrack. Definitely a misunderstood Final Fantasy.

Yeah, removing TimeSplitters 2 was more a matter of the third game (which I have for PS2) more or less being a total replacement for it. Unlike the other TimeSplitters games, that one is actually cohesive. And it has a pretty funny story to boot. Though I'll never take advantage of its online mode again, haha.

Consider Yourself a Hero: Majority of games are beaten
I know what you mean about the Zeldas. My first experience with one was a gold cartridge original Zelda on the NES, but I only played it for a few minutes at most, and I was very young. The next time I actually played a Zelda game was OoT on the Gamecube since a college roommate (did you ever meet Ben?) had pre-ordered Wind Waker...to say the least, I fell in love with it, as well as Master Quest, which I thought was even better.

Since then, I've played a few more (LttP on emulator and VC, Majora's Mask on VC, Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, and parts of Oracle of Seasons and Link's Awakening), and I've found them all to be quite excellent. It's interesting how well it did make the transition to 3D, and how well the 2D games really do hold up even today. Just last month, I was reading a game mechanic analysis of the original LoZ and how they handled movement so as to not frustrate the player (i.e. keeping it fluid by not getting stuck on corners), while still being precise and along set paths. They really thought it through, to say the least.

And yep, the PS3 is definitely fun to have around. I've logged probably close to 40 or 50 hours in Demon's Souls since I got it over Spring Break. Fun stuff.

Dang man a free PS3?? Can't beat that, I guess heh. As for me I've been slaving away studying for the CPA exam, but I've taken a small break as of late.

As for ALttP, I dled it on VC almost two years ago but couldn't get into it for some reason. I started a new game yesterday though and enjoyed it quite a bit, so hopefully I'll get around to beating it soon. I didn't really get into the Zelda games until OoT, so I guess it took awhile for the 2D zelda games to grow on me or something heh. Anyways, enjoy WW!

Oooh, LttP. I replayed that awhile back on VC and loved every minute of it once again. Such a great game, and getting all of the optional stuff is both fun and not too difficult in that game (aside from one staff and a few pieces of heart).

That reminds me, I need to replay Wind Waker again, that way I can a) enjoy it, b) clean up my partial walkthrough, and c) have my own saved game, since my old one was on a roommate's Gamecube that was stolen later.

Mostly grad work still, though I was recently given a PS3, which I've been playing quite a bit. Chase was in town a few weeks back, but I missed him since I was away that weekend.

What about yourself? Still plugging away at the major, or did you graduate awhile ago?

Holy crap man, I've wasted hours today on that Akinator thing.

So ridiculously addictive, I can't help but smile every time it brings up the right answer (which is almost all the time).

Yep, Chase and I are working on it together some weeknights. We're only through chapter 3 at this point, and I think we chose the green path since we wanted to go insane more often. Great game so far.
