Wow! Talk about similarities. I saw your post on a friend's page, and damn.. you seem to have the "Buy a million games, finish only a few" disease, as well. Great collection, man.

Ha ha, finally started back through Dragoon today. Grinded to the best additions for my party, and now I'm going back to collect Star Dusts and such. This will take a long time so I hope to have some real progress by next week. Addition grinding was already a pretty big time sink, considering I couldn't afford the automatic accessories when they were available, heh.

LoD, I can explain ha ha. I'm trying to get back into it. All this month starmen.net was having their month-long EarthBound Funktastic Gameplay event so that took up my gaming. I'm on the cusp of finishing LoD, but it's been hard to find time.

I have Destiny of an Emperor. I was -going- to clear it, then I went away and forgot about it when I came home. I'll get to it .

Out of the ones I've played, Roller Coaster Tycoon is definitely the best. Probably not RCT3, but one of the first two. However if there's one themed game in particular that interests you, it's pretty hard to go wrong with any of them.

For games that don't have "Tycoon" in the title, Sim City 2000 was an extreme addiction. I haven't played any of the newer ones, though. I've still got my old Macintosh copy on floppy disk and in the big display box with all the manuals, good as new The thought of selling it has never crossed my mind, even though I haven't had a Mac for over a decade. Too many good memories.

Hey thanks a bunch. This is the theme I am most proud of. And yeah, I love the game. The entire Rockman franchise I love to pieces, from old to new (though the DS ones are pretty meh). Huge fan of it all. My favorite boss from 3, though, hmmm...toughie. I like Magnet Man the best probably. Not entirely sure why, but the fact he has a full face helmet (well almost) probably helps. I just like his design. Though he's the easiest to beat~

You have a lot of games! Wowza. Almost all of them though, haha.

I see. I'd probably have a similar problem if my disposable income had allowed that in the past few years. Finding the Backloggery made me reexamine my priorities, though. Now I'm more careful with my purchase choices.

Good luck getting through your Bak'laag

Yup, SQ is pretty old by now! Even the ones I like to think of as "the recent one" are still no later than mid nineties, and SQV is the first that's even a Windows game. But I've always been a nostalgia buff, and as long as the games are actually playable, I have no problem with them being old. Your Warcraft 2 example is striking actually - I have no problem playing Warcraft 2 even today but the original Warcraft has not aged well. It's a major fuss to control even on the early missions, and much like Dune 2, it just feels archaic now.

Incidentally if you do want to play Warcraft 2 again, see if you can't pick up the Battle.net Edition for cheap. It works flawlessly on Windows, and comes with expansion pack included.

I do see some scratches on my FF8 disc but no more than usual. Most of my games are used and have some visible wear and tear but it virtually never affects the game. So I suspect it's probably backwards compatibility. I hope it is, even - my PS1 is in the wardrobe in the other room, whereas I wouldn't know where in this country to get a resurfacing done (usually have it done in the US when I'm visiting friends).

I tend to go mostly physical on most RPGs that are not specifically geared to do otherwise (such as Mana Khemia where you regain MP very quickly on characters in the back row, and the damage potential is much better). Physical attacks will see you through most of DoaE too, but the last few bosses WILL wipe the floor with you.

The final boss thinks nothing of blocking your physical attacks for a few turns with the right tactic, pounding you with An Sha which has an instant kill chance on any general, and when you finally whittle down his enormous army, he'll use his "heal completely" move if he gets the chance and basically start your battle over. It is virtually impossible to win without beating him at his own tactics game.

If you picked up Chi Tu Ma earlier, it boosts the agility on the character equipping it (or has it in its inventory, not sure if equipping was possible). Put that on an already agile character to make them quick enough to get the first turn on anything, including those last few bosses. Invaluable if you need to get a tactic off that locks their abilities.

Howdy! Yeah, I found both collections for cheap on Steam and pounced on the opportunity. I've played most of these before, but never actually owned them beyond King's Quest VII and Space Quest IV, the latter of which doesn't run properly without a DOS emulator (it has a few timing based puzzles which default to an instant loss on regular Windows due to higher processor speeds). It's a great nostalgia trip to be playing through both series again. On Space Quest, I've come to the games I've never finished before, V and VI - on King's Quest I have just IV left to replay before I come to V which has always eluded me.

My problems in FF8 could be a scratched disc, or possibly a backwards compatibility issue. I remember Metal Gear Solid freezing on me at a specific spot, consistently, across two different copies of the game, until I got my PS1 out of my wardrobe and got past that part fine. I'm trying FF8 another time to see if it works this time, if not I'll try the PS1, and if that doesn't work I'll have the disc resurfaced. I'll get through this, but it may take longer than I had in mind.

You *have* been moving fast this month! Pretty impressed. I have played and finished Destiny of an Emperor...three times now I think, and I'd agree, it's an RPG plain and simple. Your HP may be called troops and how many you have left has some impact on battle, but otherwise it's just like any RPG. Note that the exact number of soldiers doesn't matter to the damage you do, but the number of digits does. An army with 200 soldiers does exactly as much damage as one with 900, but hit 1000 and you get a significant damage boost. Again for 10000. Something to keep in mind for tough battles and deciding when to heal.

Food likely won't be an issue in the second half of the game, when enemy armies drop it in huge quantities and you soon won't know what to do with your money anymore either. You get some serious opposition later on though, and need to get to know your tactics. You'll get some that can block enemies from using tactics for a while, and against bosses that can one shot your armies or heal themselves fully, you'll need to employ those.

I love your idea of going back through your collection and playing through them in the order of release- absolutely awesome idea! I totally want to do it now, but I wouldn't even get past the 8-bit era, lol. I am curious, are you using ROMs for any of these 1000+ games, or do have some giant vault stored with all your games somewhere in, or near, your house?

Good luck on the playthroughs! I am excited to watch you progress through all of it.

Yeah, I'm taking some time getting to the end. It's been very fun, though. The plot makes quite a bit more sense when they're played in story order.

I've been meaning to ask you. You've these 1000+ games, and all of them are . What's the deal?
