Chrono Trigger's menu screen is excellent, but if you want the full experience you really need to press start. Some people get so overwhelmed by that ticking clock that they put it down for weeks at a time, but you need to take that leap of faith and get to the real meat of the game! It's difficult at times, like when you have to name your character, but it's a rewarding experience.

you probably need to play about 3-6 hours into Chrono Trigger to 'get it'

Unless you are an RPG nut...then you'll 'get it' during your first real mission.
