Yeah I was planning on trying the other characters in the demo but I liked Therion enough to stick with him. I especially like his HP/SP drain abilities and being able to nab purple chests early.

I was an idiot and decided to complete the main story before acquiring the EXP Egg haha. I thought I would be able to warp back while exploring but they didn't let you until you were just before the final boss. I thought I would have left grinding to the post-game as that's when you're last level of crystarium opens up for each character. If I ever go back and play XIII again (which will happen once I'm rested again) I will definitely max out the characters before moving on to completing the missions.

I thought that Crystarium was different in that you leveled up certain roles and it was actually possible to not level your characters optimally in XIII-2?And yeah, I thought it was interesting that a third monster would work as your third character in your party. Very inspired by X-2 no doubt.

I'll definitely let you know when I post something. From the tone, characters, gameplay and story, XIII is very much a mix of VII and X. It has me thinking that XIII was trying to top VII but didn't quite make it. I plan to write a post-mortem/review of sorts of XII to help people understand what it was going for, what it did well and where it just didn't succeed.

Thanks, man. It was a long, six year journey of being over hyped, being let down and then learning to enjoy the game based on its merits. It does quite a few things right like having some of the more fleshed out characters in the series and streamlining a lot of RPG annoyances like healing after battle and such. The version of ATB in this game was pretty fun and a smidge more strategic than other FF games.

It does have some flaws though. Even though the linearity is deeply connected to the themes of the game, I still find the world layouts poor aside from Pulse. Also, I think the game has pacing issues that makes it seem like content was cut because they ran out of time? And while crystarium is streamlined and makes leveling not as clunky as FF X, it's also a lot less exciting. I was really hoping the final level of crystarium would have had more abilities but it turned out to be all stat ups.

Overall, it was enjoyable. I mostly played it to deeply understand the game and see if I gave it an unfair impression the first time I attempted to play it. I'm hoping to write up something about the game at some point.

Once I crank out a few more RPGs from my backlog, I'll probably pick up XIII-2. I'm curious to see how crystarium and other elements are improved. I'll more than likely pick up XV before XIII-2 though. This time though, I won't bow to the hype. I'll keep my expectations lower and play with an open mind haha.

Same here I just didn't have as much time in March to game as I would like. And now in April, I'm reading more than gaming so that's eating at my time too. Especially with the new Ratchet & Clank game and Star Fox on the way, it's going to be hard to keep up haha.

Yeah I hear ya. I know the supply will probably be better. I was going to buy it off of Amazon but they ran out of stock super quickly. Had to run to a Target to pick up a copy. Plus, eshop card deals might be in the future.

And yeah, I feel really bad but I think I'll need to add another game on Friday haha. In NA, they're doing a budget re-release of Wii U and 3DS games. Pikmin 3 is on the list and it's only going for $20 so I need to snag it ASAP before it's gone! I need all of the Pikmin games physically
