I've only beaten Mega Man 1&2, and played and enjoyed (but not beaten) the ZX DS spin offs. I've always been more interested in the spin offs than the main games because they all look hella fun, but I've never got to them, so this is probably a good time to play them in release order since they're not too long and I don't want to get obsessed with games right now.

So far it's been good? The added dialogue is really appreciated, although the game feels both easier and clunkier, with the controls not being too responsive, but the enemies are not as aggressive as well. The platforming is still ruthless though, so that kinda sucks.

That being said, it feels like a product of its time, it has all this extra stuff to replay it a lot that I feel I simply won't appreciate due to not replaying games in general it probably made some kids happy to have something to play over and over though.

I feel the family issues on a spiritual level.. even more so after the last 3 weeks or so. Good god, I've seen so stressed it isn't funny. But I do hope that things take a turn for the better for you, and that your family stops treating you like you can just flip your mental stuff on and off, it simply doesn't work that way. I won't go too deep into my own situation but we're seriously considering selling our place, putting granny somewhere she'll be cared for and finding a home that's more up to date and requires less $$ to fix.

MMX7 is uh.. well.. lol. It's a very special game, let's put it that way. I know we discussed how crappy the X series gets the further along you get but then I played X7 and was like and some of those boss designs.. lmao. No please. I've only got X8 to beat now and I'm wondering how that's gonna play out.

Hope your week has been going well, the last few have been a struggle for me personally but I hope we'll both get through the craziness that is life.

I hate the character limit

tl;dr they're usually games with a focus on their characters instead of an overall story, with the appeal of having a pretty complex system of making items that usually utterly breaks any resemblance of balance the game could have, so this usually means that if the characters are interesting I love them, if they're flanderized and a one trick pony I hate them. Which seems to be the exact opposite reaction the fanbase has for whatever reason.

and I really, really feel I undersold how good the music is so here are a bunch of really good tracks I like:

I hate this website and how drumble manages it with a passion, but the social aspect is basically the reason I don't move to other sites. Which, looking at the beta, will probably disappear too since it seems to be delegated to a random tab instead of being the focus with a proper timeline.

I'm probably not the best person to talk about atelier since I apparently don't agree with the fanbase at all, but well, I can tell you my story with it. Atelier is a series of budget games that's been running for 25 years, and they usually release at least one a year. They're usually divided in sagas, most commonly trilogies, but the games in them only share the world and you get some returning characters but are usually self-contained, as the protagonist is usually a different person with a different goal.

They're, in general, pretty long averaging 35 hours per game: some are shorter, some are longer, but just standard RPG time. Since a friend recommended me Ar Tonelico a long time ago, I've been a fan of Gust and I absolutely love the worlds they make, they're incredibly interesting. Atelier Marie, the first game, was basically your typical raising sim: you have 5 years, you have a goal, there's a bunch of characters out there you can deepen your friendship with, and you kinda feed a loop of going to get materials with them which gives you friendship -> go back to synthesize items for requests and general usage and see events -> go to get materials.

As games went on, the saga moved from this to standard RPG with a clear story and alchemy being simpler and secondary. These are the PS2 games that we got translated, and where I started playing them. But apparently jp complained about them becoming pure RPGs, so with the PS3 and a change to 3D they went back to the roots. Except I hated everything about Rorona, dumbed down characters, :stupid premise, we went from the best turn based combat I've ever played to the shittiest one and the music took a hit. After and including Rorona, all atelier games follow the same pattern as the original of going to get mats and synthesize, but with the alchemy system becoming increasingly more complex as you can mix traits to make items more powerful.

From here, every saga is just mixed feelings, because they usually build interesting worlds but do nothing with them, probably since they make one a year. The music is excellent in general, but whether I enjoy the game or not is usually a flip coin decided by the writing.

It's a very weirdly designed game. Story is super short (it took me 9 hours, but naturally if you skip dialogue and cutscenes that can be 5 *shrugs*) but most of the game is actually postgame stuff (we're talking +80 hours of content), which you can do coop. But not the story. So if you wanna play with friends, you first have to do what's basically a really long tutorial for that. But then you kinda lose motivation to keep playing, because you already beat the game, there's just a bit more story left but it's probably not worth the grind, so it's like, playing for the sake of playing? There are still new bosses to unlock and they will update the game with some more iconic bosses from the main game, but yeah it's hard to keep playing without a real goal.

Not taking that into account, the main story is just okay-ish. Since it's so short, it really didn't have as much impact as I'd liked it to, but the action itself is pretty great even if overly cinematic, this game really is just a mix of a bunch of games together, you have a bit of monhun, shadow of the colossus, nier automata, armored core, dragon's dogma... some of the story battles are absolutely hype and I can understand why they can't be done in coop.

The good thing is that if you've never played GBF, it's self contained so you're not missing much. It assumes you're at an exact point in the main story of gbf, but it doesn't really matter anyway.

The battle system itself is a bit too spammy for me, maybe because the bosses have too much HP so sometimes it feels you're hitting at air. In terms of endgame, the game has some serious mechanics issues because it tries to copy the gear building from gbf, which is part of its appeal, but fails miserably because the damage cap they introduced in the game is way too low. This means that not only most of the damage skills become useless, so do buffs and debuffs, and endgame builds look VERY similar between characters with the exception of their unique sigils (think of decos in monhun).

The music is great and every character does play differently even if they end up being a one trick pony. While not all characters are equal, the damage cap means that eventually all characters do very similar damage. In general, I'd say it's a good aRPG, a 7 or so. There's also the issue that the localization is extremely free, so if you like jp voices you'll see that most dialogue doesn't really correspond to what they're saying.

Heyo! Slow response because I'm bad at remembering to do the social thing. xD

Bloodstained was an enjoyable experience for the most part but there were some annoying parts as well. Tremendous amount of weapon choice, some of the quests were annoying to do but I will say that's only because the item drop % rate on certain mobs is absurdly low and ridiculous. Story wasn't super deep but combat overall was fun. I'd recommend it on a sale and not buying it full price though, lol. I'm no Metroidvania expert though so you have to take my opinions with a grain of salt compared to someone who plays this genre all the time.

Lol demon boob lady. It's true! She needed to be yeeted and she had boobs!

Nah you're fine on sharing what's been going on with your life. That sounds a lot like how my shitter aunt's side of the family clearly didn't put any care or effort into the gifts they got for my side of the family, but did shop well for others. It doesn't upset or bother me because they frankly aren't worth the energy to get upset/mad at but it's hilarious how some people will think they are being funny by being rude. But guess we all have issues with different parts of our family.. Lately we've been having to seriously consider whether or not to put my granny somewhere or have a helper be here at times because she's had some falls and is being really stubborn about using a walker.

But anywho, I'm so sorry you're dealing with that. Hopefully things get better for you, and your sister saying that to you is super crummy. :/ People struggle for different reasons but if you're able to help feed someone in your family who is clearly struggling then why be that way? Just seems ridiculous in my eyes.

Oh boy Mega Man. I enjoyed the classic games and when I got into the X series collection I'd say that MMX 1-3 were enjoyable and then from there they started to feel like some things weren't really designed with fun in mind.. I've had many moments where I've considered stopping a game or skipping over it because of some crazy boss mechs or platforming that's so precise you can easily just die or fail to get x item because you destroyed x object to get to it etc. TLDR is that I feel the further along the X games go the less fun they seem to be? Maybe that's just me.

Hope you're having a great week!

Thank you it was really nice seeing them.

It’s worth a play, I did enjoy it and I’m looking forward to playing Wild Arms 2 at some point. Nice! I’ve yet to finish Xenogears, I’m currently playing FFVIII - I’ve had it for a long time and never completed it so nice to see how I like it as a grown up.

Basically, in that game you only control Serah and Noel, the rest of your party slots are actually filled with monsters you can tame and develop as if they were regular characters. The only thing that's really different is that their roles are fixed, while the protagonists can switch between them. You can then fuse monsters together similarly to megaten games to combine their abilities and stuff. It's not a system hard to grasp, but it has a lot of depth if you like optimizing stuff, or you can mostly ignore it or check somewhere where to get some strong monsters and roll with that. I don't remember the game being difficult anyway.

I'm doing pretty well. Trying to figure out what to do with my life now that I've graduated and gotten a real job. Playing with the idea of getting a side hustle or starting up some passion projects. Never realized how nice it was to have clearly-defined goals with deadlines and feedback. Now I've got to force myself to stay on track with things I don't *have* to do. It feels weird.

How about you?
