I find The After Years to be a good game. The graphics are pretty much the same, though it looks more like FFVI with the larger sprites. The music is the same too with maybe a handful of new tracks. There are new abilities called Bands where it is almost similar to the Dual and Triple Techs of Chrono Trigger. Overall there is nothing groundbreaking, but you can forgive it a little for being originally on the cellphones.

The problems I can see is that while it does have some new events, it tends to repeat a lot of the past events such with the Dark Elf, guarding Fabul, and etc., but this time with different characters. This can be annoying for some, but to those who haven't played FFIV in a while might consider this nostalgic. Also the character have been given slight developments like Palom, and some are expanded upon like Luca. I also love how their stories are divided so you can focus entirely on them and how their lives are affected after the game's end.

It really depends on whether or not if you were attached to Final Fantasy IV and its cast to appreciate these changes and the storyline. I, for one, loved this game, but opinions may vary. I would say that you can always buy the main storyline which contains three Tales: Prologue, Ceodore's, and Kain's; to see if you like it. And then you can purchase the rest of the Tales or the Tales of your favorite characters.

It's true that Rebel Strike isn't as good as the first two, mainly because of the on-foot sections and a greatly reduced difficulty. But the rest of the game is still well enough made to warrant a purchase.

Although, if you can get one of your friends to let you borrow their copy, you might want to do that just to make sure you can stomach the non-flying parts.
