KUUULOOORRRR ▼
Some guy and his girlfriend, both with a way-too-massive collection of games. We share the collection, but this is my personal listing so it's from my POV. I enjoy the well-respected classics and get huge boners collecting for obscure consoles. There's nothing quite like finding great games where hardly anybody else has looked before.
Top 5 Systems---
SNES
Gameboy (DMG)
NES
Saturn
Neo Geo AES/MVS (don't have one tho 'cuz I'd rather eat)
tl;dr Boring Self-Imposed Rules
This is a listing of physical video games in our collection. For the sake of this listing, a game is a piece of software with an explicit losing end condition, which is contained in some hard medium.
Sim Tunes, for example, is not a game -- it is an electronic toy. (lack of end condition)
A computer simulation of a Rubik's Cube, for example, is not a game -- it is an electronic puzzle. (end, but lack of losing condition)
All ROMs and digital distribution are excluded, because all games listed here are indeed owned by me in some physical format. Pirate compilation cartridges will also be excluded from this listing, as it would be far too easy to cheat and count hundreds of games on a single cartridge.
Official multicarts will be counted for each separate game they contain that was released in the exact same way for the same system. Super Mario All-Stars, for example, only counts as one game; Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt counts as two. Expansion packs are mentioned in comments but not listed unless they're completely stand-alone (can run without the original game), because I tried listing them once and it was getting stupid. Built-in ROM games for consoles count and are listed, but other pieces of software that happen to also have games built-in do not (I.E. Windows 98 CD 'cuz of Space Pinball or whatever).
This collection is US-centric, so if there's a US version of a game I prefer that version, followed by PAL if English is available, followed by Japanese, followed by other. If the lack of English doesn't detract from the game at all, NTSC is preferred over PAL due to speed issues -- unless the game originally was PAL. Also always prefer to get a game on the original platform that it was released for, though if the original is lacking an English translation I may settle for the first version to be in English. Modding a cart with a ROM hack that makes it English is perfectly acceptable to me.
I don't intend to start collecting unreliable tape media (cassettes, floppies etc.) but some games that I really enjoy only officially came out like that, especially for platforms like the C64 or Apple II. For those cases, I will list a reproduction so long as it's made to a level of quality that is equal to official releases, including media with printed label and case with printed cover. In these instances I will probably mark them with "Ownership: Other" so they can be distinguished from official products.
A "null" game is usually unbeatable, lacking a winning end condition. Sometimes it's a game that I just don't ever want to be bothered to play through, though. Most older games are unwinnable, so I typically assume they should be marked "null", but I might be wrong sometimes. If you catch one that's winnable and I have it marked as "null" and you actually care enough, drop me a line. If I had it marked wrong I'll throw you a cookie or something. :3
