I slept entirely through a Mother's Day as a teen back in 2000 because I was up until 7:00 AM playing Valkyrie Profile. Needless to say, my mom was kinda mad. The struggle is real.

It's becoming apparent I'm way too "easy" on games. I had an "LJN" childhood so that probably explains it.

Thanks!

Sort of random question inspired by your progress notes for Wario World, but what constitutes a 2 star rating for a game? I'm in the process of re-organizing/re-rating the games on my list (I give out 5 stars a bit too quickly), and I see a 2-star game as a game I enjoyed to some extent but would consider a "bad" game.

Ahaha. I just kinda got bored with it after a while, though I do intend to return to it soon-ish. Dungeon crawlers have always been about gameplay for me so I just want to go exploring the dungeons and everything else should be secondary. But not only does DT2 have way too much dialogue, that dialogue often boils down to just excuses for the girls to do fanservice instead of anything plot related.

The gameplay and soundtrack are still really solid though

Hahaha, it's funny because I actually defeated Penance without Zanmato.

I want my time back.

I'm torn on Vice City Stories. On the one hand, I like the soundtrack (better than Vice City, actually), the characters, and some of the missions. On the other hand, there's some incredibly frustrating parts (there's a particular mission fairly late into the game with hard-to-hit constantly respawning enemies), and it doesn't feel "different" enough in the way Liberty City Stories really felt like a prequel to GTA3.

That's a pretty accurate summation of my thoughts of GTAV, too. I loved the "throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" approach (which more than made up for the lack of mission variety in GTA4), but not much of what was thrown actually stuck, you know? I still had a great time with it, but I was also frustrated with how "scripted" GTA games in the HD era feel (anod how much of a pain in the ass they are to 100%).

Part of it is my fault for bringing Sypha along rather than Grant. I could probably make short work of this stage if I had him on my side, but alas.

I'm going through the games in order, but I'm only playing the ones on my Backloggery that I own and haven't Completed yet. I've finished Symphony of the Night, Rondo of Blood, IV, Castlevania I, Castlevania II, and The Dracula X Chronicles on PSP, but I've still got lots to do.

Haha, yes! I'm playing Hard Mode right now, so that's my little way of signifying "I NEED EXTRA LIVES". The main game was hard enough, but do-able without the extra lives. Hard Mode is just going to take me too long without the HELP ME code, and I've got lots of other Castlevania games to play this month.

I HATE those skull-head Medusa head type enemies. Medusa Heads were at least predictable and avoidable. Climbing up stairs while dodging the skull heads is hell.

Absolutely. The quality and delivery of Logan Cunningham's voice acting is one thing that makes it great, but the word choices and script itself are also especially strong. The whole thing is very weathered and world-weary (obviously!), but also sort of warm and friendly, with a tinge of regret.

I love the gameplay, too. I've seen reviewers write it off as "shallow", but I'm not seeing it. There's an emphasis on rolling and dodging, sure, but there's a huge variety in weapons and skills to play with, and all of them are good in their own way.

Transistor is similar, but different. There's a bit of a parallel to Final Fantasy XIII in the way it's linearly structured and the way the story works, but that's actually a compliment because the game handles the scenario extremely well. The narration is there, with the same voice cast, but it's handled differently: the narrator doesn't have a wealth of knowledge this time around, so it's very observational without the certainty that Bastion had.

The gameplay is good, too. I prefer Bastion's gameplay a bit more, but Transistor offers an interesting mix of real-time combat and RPG combat, except with an emphasis on efficiency and speed: again, like FFXIII, but again, this is a compliment!

Without getting into spoilers (I'll be extremely vague), what puts it a bit above Bastion, at least for me, is the way it handles and presents the game's doomsday scenario, particularly as you near the end.
