This.. is the king of strategy games imho. I always loved how low the rng actually affects battle between units compared to other games in the genre. I also love how, most of the time, you win by conquering the map, not just the enemy. These are the reasons why I loved Dual Strike so much, and without its obnoxious tag power, the game feels so much more balanced. The music also slaps so hard. Just don't buy the god-awful Switch demake (with also shittier AI).

So I was practicing the infamous Malenia boss fight.
One of my proudest achievements in From Software games is the fact that I never used any kind of summon, broken weapons or weird exploits. But just for once, while practicing, I was thinking about the doppelganger summon that EVERYONE never stop to talk about that you can use in solo.

He... He... He fucking stoled my victory. I feel so let down that I can't believe that broken stuff like this (without any specific setup) could've actually stun locked most of the time a super boss like this one.
Remember kids: winners don't do drugs.
Just practice and you will get good at anything.
I feel so sad that I cannot reload a save pre-Malenia with my stats and gear.

I listened to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band as you suggested, and it is really good! Hard to go wrong with the Beatles tbh, I think I liked "Fixing A Hole", "She's Leaving Home", and "When I'm Sixty-Four" the most, but the whole album is great! I will have to listen to the individual songs you recommended soon, along with those Genesis songs too.

Oh also, I'm thrilled to hear you liked Demons and Wizards! I really like those songs too. It's a great bunch of music, that's for sure.

Sicuro! Io il fumetto non lo conosco proprio, è sicuramente molto godibile. L'atmosfera è veramente bella e in generale il gioco fila liscio, però è veramente infame nell'esplorazione, bisogna abituarsi a perdersi ahah

As far as Uriah Heep albums, I'd recommend checking out Demons and Wizards and The Magician's Birthday. Demons is their most iconic album, either that or Look At Yourself or Sweet Freedom.
For individual songs, I'd recommend "Lady In Black" (from Salisbury), "Stealin'" (from Sweet Freedom), "July Morning" (from Look At Yourself), and "Sweet Freedom" (from Sweet Freedom), "Easy Livin'" (from Demons and Wizards), "The Wizard" (from Demons and Wizards), and "Sunrise" (from The Magician's Birthday).
And that's just their Classic Era stuff. There's tons of great music from beyond and around that time too, but I don't this to turn into an essay .

For Styx, I'm less familiar with their discography, but they have had a much smaller output than Uriah Heep at least. The Grand Illusion is the Styx album I'd recommend checking out. "Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)" and "Renegade" from Pieces of Eight are great too. "Lorelei" was one of their first hits. "Suite Madame Blue" is great too.

And just for fun, my fav Heep albums are Salisbury and The Magician's Birthday, and my fav Styx album is Equinox. Very unconventional picks. but I think that says something about my tastes haha

I really need to listen to more of The Beatles than I have. I think Genesis is a band my mom likes, actually, though I'm not familiar with them, tbh.

And now... the honorable mentions.

1) I REALLY want to love No More Heroes III, but despite the hysterically good sound design, it just feels incomplete. It definitely has soul, but also a lot of garbage collectibles and boring completion tasks.
However, I still recommend it just for the highs that are still pretty high.

Favourite track: Perfect World - Bike Theme (second vaporwave world)

2) 3D Super Hang On is lost on the 3DS Eshop sadly... and forever will be. But if you can still play any Sega 3D classics, just give 'em an hug. Yes, there are the Sega Ages ports for Switch, but they're not the same.

Favourite track: Outride a Crisis (of course)

3) Don't skip Yakuza 3, is much better than I expected. The story about Kiryu and his orphanage was pretty wholesome, despite some boring moments. The combat is a bit shit, but tollerable when you unlock some decent heat moves and techniques. I also missed the more simple upgrade system of the first 2 games. The scamstories are amusing, but I don't recommend to complete 'em all.

Favourite track: FM Sound Storm (unique spoiler-boss theme)

4) Scott Pilgrim VS The World is an average beat em up with phenomenal music and sprite animations.
I also really like the funny premise of the story lol.

Favourite Track: Suburban Tram (it gives me Sonic vibes)

5) Paper Mario the Origami King is a really cool game that should not be overlooked, but Super Mario RPG was a lot more charming and memorable, despite being more "safe" for today standards. It's short but confident in its own characters and ideas and doesn't overstay its welcome.

Favourite Track: Super Pipe House (SMB Overworld Theme but with accordion? fucking genius)
Also Picnic Road slaps for the same reason

6) Fatal Frame 4: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is something that's old and outdated for today standards... but it has a chanting charm that still grabs me. It's something like the best horror movies that clench you with terrific atmosphere and a mystery that tickle your imagination, while you place the pieces of the story bit by bit with the chilling notes that you read. Is not my favourite in the series, but every game is always a really good time.

Favourite Track: The Tsukimori Song (pipe organ). The final boss theme is absurd to listen to while you're alone in the middle of the night

7) My love for Ikaruga is directly proportional to my hatred for it. I started appreciated it after my third playthrough, and on the 4th one I loved it. I don't really like the bullet hell genre, but the music and the boss design is so fucking cool.

Favourite track: Butsutekkai (Boss theme 1 it feels like a lost boss theme from Xenogears, it's awesome)

8) I didn't expected to Max Payne being so much fun to play, nonetheless the janky-ass PS2 port "remastered" on PS4. The gameplay is super tight and hard just enough on Normal. The blocky jpeg-ass faces and the AWFUL italian dub are still the cherry on top for me, but I also like the decent OG dub for the time. The nightmare sequences are also nightmare-fuel material, no shit. Great sound design.

Favourite track: Byzantine Power Game (YES, GIMME THAT ESCAPE FROM NY SYNTHS PLS)

2023 Chad's choice award.

1) Tactics Ogre Reborn is one of my GOATs. If every remake could be this good, the world could be a less toxic place (probably). I loved everything about it: voice acting, art, gameplay, music, the instant replay value (that's something unknown from me for decades), the addicting difficulty. I love how it's filled with loads of interesting classes and new gimmicky equipment that you still unlock even after hundreds of hours of playtime. It feels like a huge and neverending game, but packed with actually interesting content compared to other checklists garbage that just makes you a fool for spending more hours than you really need. One of my absolute favourite ever.

Favourite Track: Limitation (the sexiest thing since sex. The climax against the Dark Knights is unforgettable)

2) I really hate the Youtube Wild Arms "fans" for underhype-ing this series which has A LOT to offer. From distinct and unique combat systems from game to game, the whistle-able music that stucks with you for months and months, the tool-based dungeon exploration, the 90's anime as hell art style. It has it all. My favourite is probably WA 3 for the non conventional equip system and gameplay in general, but I love just as much WA 1 and 2.
They're also short but packed games in general, so they're even more recommended for the busy jrpg loser. They're not perfect games by any means, but they're charming adventures that should not be labeled like "just like other below-average rpg of the time".

Favourite Tracks: WA2 - The Barren Fields. WA1 - Courage (dungeon theme). WA3 - There's only one Family named Schrodinger (Unique non-spoiler boss theme)

3) Judgment kicks ass. I loved the story and characters, just like the music that grew on me hours after hours. I loved the villains and the quirky side cases. A bit less the combat, but it still is really satisfying.
I've really high hopes about the sequel.

Favourite Track: Threads of Sin (is the most hyped long battle theme I've yet listen in the series, is that good)

4) I must resist the urge to recommend RE Revelations 2 above Village. I always smirk when I see unapologeticly dumb RE fanservice, but VII.I.age is the total package. It's a bit predictable pacing wise, but it makes up with fun and different set-pieces througout the game

Favourite Track: Ripples in the Calm (Title Screen)

Hmm, well ironically my favorite bands are ones that have rarely been/never been in rhythm games. My all-time favorite right now (and I don't really see it changing) is Uriah Heep, and sadly none of their music has ever been in GH or RB, though Fortnite Festival gives me renewed hope! Styx has also only had a few of their songs in these games, and DLC you can't buy anymore. Heart has definitely been in the most games of these three at least, so I'm not completely starved of my favorite bands.

Playing GH and RB a lot this year did give me a new appreciation for Rush (my dad's favorite band) and led me to discover some new bands, like Creedence Clearwater Revival. It also led me to actually listening to some band discographies such as Van Halen and Billy Joel. Overall, great for diversifying my musical taste a lot. It's all still Rock, but different flavors at least.

Having played Mask of the Sun myself, can confirm it is not very fun to play. It has a similar problem as SNES Ys III where the hitboxes are really screwy (not surprising considering Tonkin House was responsible for both) and Adol and all the enemies move at hyperspeed so it's really annoying to aim your bump attacks. I may or may not have used several savestates when I was playing the game :p

I haven't played very many of them, I only had GH3 and WT as a kid, and I've only more recently played 1 and 2, and Warriors of Rock, though only a little. I don't have a CRT set up to actually be able to play GH1, and the others I just haven't really played much. Of Rock Band, I've only played RB1, 3, and LEGO RB of Rock Band. So I'd say my favorites are probably GH3 and RB3, though I do honestly like LRB a lot, provided I can have a bunch of DLC songs to expand the abysmally small setlist a bit...

Yeah, I think the party-based games are okay, but having six or so characters + Adol just makes things too bloated, for both gameplay and story, which is why I was really happy that IX is mostly doing away with the party system. It's still a far cry from my dream Ys game of a Ys V remake Adol-Dogi tagteam game, but maybe someday.

I... have really mixed feelings about Ys VIII's plot. It's really great until you start to find out what's really going on, and that stupid asspull it was all a dream ending was really just... ugh. But I dunno, I liked MoC's plot, but I'm just a weird person with weird tastes.

My favorite Ys has always been The Ark of Napishtim, so I've liked the Napishtim-engine games the most. I still haven't played Dawn of Ys, though I have hardly played videogames this year, aside from Guitar Hero/Rock Band. Yeah PCE Ys III is really good. I finished the SNES version on hardware in 2020. Would not recommend. Lol.

Uhhhhhhh..... Well, once I found out about Backloggery I just decided I'm gonna re-play all my RPGs again. I think every RPG is pretty good but I think it's ok to even like a 0-star RPG. Like I enjoy eating at crappy restaurants cause I just like to eat. And it's near.

Sorry it doesn't show your comment when I'm replying. (They should fix that.) I always give a 1-star review I don't think 0 exists. And I just think, "Is this a 1-star RPG, 2-star, 3-star... et cetera....." Even my favorite RPG ever is, I just think, a 3 or 4-star RPG and I think it's ok to think like that.

Yeah, I played Wild ARMs in High school.
