If you're mainly just about gameplay and not the story these days - avoid Witcher 3. Personally it surprised me a lot, and I consider it among my all time favourites now. I spent 80 hours on it before I wrapped up the story. Still have both expansions to touch and a bunch of side quests.

I like the gameplay, but it's not the reason to play the game. The combat system is rather simple and the movement is a bit clunky. Nothing to do with combat is deep. It's fun for what it is, but not deep. The story is the draw here, and for me it told a great story that I really got invested in.

But for me with any RPG, it's story first and gameplay a close second. If the story isn't there for me, I wind up quitting.

I found all the conferences to be rather dull to be honest. Almost everything showed was already known about well in advance. MS and Sony both did decently, they just lacked that spark to me.

I even turned to Ubisoft or EA for some silly and awkward E3 nonsense... And was severely disappointed as well

The days of Ninety-Nine- Nights 2 and Dance Masters type moments are gone forever it would seem.

Bloodborne is easily up there with the Souls games. I even found it taught me not to rely on shields so much in the Souls games too. Loved that. I found the whole game pretty easy except for Father G. Never would have thought that, for me personally, the hardest boss would be one of the first fights haha.

I haven't finished the DLC either. It was just plain hard for me. I'll go back to t eventually.

Bloodborne was fantastic. I love that game. I thought I was all set for Dark Souls III, but it was a little too soon after beating BB, so it's on hold for now.

I'm tempted to buy the Ratchet collection instead myself. I've been watching my brother in law play it here and there, and what I have seen looks good... But the storytelling doesn't do it for me in the way they've done it. I wonder how the HD collection runs on Vita...

There was never a chance to get that FfXV set, Haha. I'm in the same boat as you, I'll be price matching Target or Big W when it drops. I don't like steel books, so just the base game for me.

Hey. I've been going okay. Much the same old.

I got Street Fighter V around release and really enjoy it myself. I have it mostly for local multiplayer with my brother in law. It serves the purpose perfectly for that. I did try to get online and work on getting better, but online fighters just aren't for me. I did improve a lot with Ken after reading the Shoryuken guide on fighters... But yeah. I'm sure when you get back to it you'll get even better. It's probably just that you're now at a stage where the gains are getting smaller than say, if you were relatively new or just noobish like me lol.

The new Ratchet game is a reimagining rather than a remake, right? It does look quite good. I originally wrote it off as a movie tie in (which it is), but looks like it stands alone. I would rather a full fledged new trilogy set after A Crack In Time, but perhaps this is testing the waters?

Speaking of FFX, I started that a little while ago again. It hooked me up until the first Seymour fight which I spent ages on only to lose. So I'm taking a breather while I'm hooked on another game.

I need to look into the new Star Fox one of these days. The last SF game I really liked was Assault on the GameCube.

Updated computer sounds exciting! Mine is still going strong although it's just my League of Legends machine these days. My monitor appears to be on its last legs though...

The new PS4 news irritates me to be honest. It seems like such a backwards move to make a more powerful version of an existing console. So stupid.

But yeah the past few months have been fun gaming wise. In anticipation for DS3 I played through Bloodborne and really enjoyed that. I'm taking 3 really slowly as I don't want to burn out on it entirely after beating BB and then restarting DS2.

But I'm hooked on Smite at the moment. Gives me that MOBA love right on my PS4 and its been really fun. That's what I'll be mainly playing for the foreseeable future. Only games I plan to get in the near future are Valkyria Chronicles Remastered, Overwatch, Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator and No Mans Sky.

Yeah, man. You should get back into DKCR. That was a great game. Even had some great music tracks, even if as a whole it wasn't up to snuff. Tropical Freeze just fixed that and every other problem I had with the game (levels blurring together, they were too samey sometimes, but the level design was just as good).

Anyway, yeah, DKCR was a great game. I even was inspired to get back into it and collect more of the KONG letters to try to beat the golden temple levels. Good times, man, good times.

Yeh, the Castlevania games are quite addictive.

Although for some reason I haven't been madly addicted to Symphony like I have the others (Aria, Portrait) I still come back to it every once in a while, though, and I WILL beat it.

Sorry about never replying, the last couple months have been some of the worst in my life. Things aren't so great even now, , but on to more happy things!

That's a real shame about Project Zero. It caught my eye and I almost bought it, but went with the new Chibi-Robo game instead (which is an amazing plat former). Nintendo do a lot of things well but they're hand holding tutorials certainly need to go. Does sound like there was some interference going on there. I'll have to avoid it unless it's super cheap someday.

There seems to be a general consensus that BLack Ops 3 is way harder to play than the previous games. I bought it at launch and played it and was still getting destroyed left and right haha. I haven't played in a while so no doubt the user base is even further ahead of me now.

You'll get that new PC eventually haha. I haven't been able to use mine in weeks now as I strained my chest muscles really badly and using it is an exercise in pain. Which sucks because I missed out on the League of Legends winter event...

So I've been playing my 3DS almost exclusively. Yokai Watch is one game I've fallen in total love with, as well as Chibi Robo and Xenoblade. Funny that after buying the new Xenoblade I should get hooked on the first game haha.

We may never know why Kojima went the way he did with the story, but still it was a big disappointment. My little theory is that he fell in love with Big Boss over the years, and couldn't manage to make his bad guy turn actually happen. But regardless, it had its moments for sure.

Haha yeah, I'm not quite ready for Yakuza 4 yet either. It's a bit of a black cloud hanging over my head though, one that I need to clear up eventually.

I'm really interested in Rock Band 4, but holy damn that price point is ridiculous at $250. I do have an old GH3 controller that works a treat, but considering I'd be on the Xbox One (where my DLC is), you can't play without the legacy adapter... which is in shortage now. You had one job Mad Catz...

I got really interested in Battlefront, but after seeing some extended gameplay from the beta starting up, I lost my interest in it. I'm not that big of a Star Wars guy (movies are decent), so the sound effects and visuals don't do much for me as they would a super fan. Beyond that, to me personally, the gameplay looks quite flat, slow and dull.

I'm looking for a new competitive shooter to play, as the last one I got into was Titanfall (still good fun). I skipped Advanced Warfare, so I reckon I'll wait for Black Ops III and play some more Battlefield 4 for the time being. Historically the Black Ops games draw me in quite a lot. Already itching for some Search & Destroy.

I should play more Destiny too, I always forget that game has a competitive multiplayer component.

Haha I'm not sure the whole KH collections for PS4 thing will ever happen at this rate. That series continues to boggle my mind with all the games and naming conventions they use. Ugh.

I reckon we need to get on to Yakuza 4 before 5 and whatnot make their way over. At this point I'd have to play the game again from the start, as I've got no idea what's been going on where I'm at haha.

I was so disappointed by MGSV in the end. The gameplay is great and all, but the story felt like a hack job personally, and I came away from the game feeling like it had completely wasted my time. Like I've said, MGS is a story-first series for me, so the gameplay being good can't make up for everything else.

Definitely not going back to do more side-ops.

That's where I differ though, I loved the cutscenes in MGS4. That, to me, was what MGS was all about for the most part. I get why they're gone but I do miss them a little. Still, you'll get no argument from me about V being a good game.

You'd be ahead of me, as I'm 17 hours in and on Mission 10 (pre-quiet). I don't know the answers to your list, of course, but I believe I know the deal with Ishmael (something I called during the prologue). As for the avatar, that threw me through a loop when it happened... Until I realised that MGO is coming next month. It's probably going to be your avatar for that mode. The Miller thing didn't raise questions for me, I thought they explained it as part of his torture.

I'm still on the first map, so I'm trying not to hear anything else about the other areas, but it'll be great if it makes for different sneaking tactics.

I wouldn't even attempt to visit the cesspool of a forum for a big release like this. I posted one topic asking about killing (as aside from fultoning people, I wanna kill 'em), and had a couple trolls trying to get a rise out of me saying I'm playing the game wrong, blah blah blah. Not worth the effort.

One thing V has done for me is appreciate PW a little more. I never got too far into PW before I gave up in disgust of how bleh it was, but the two seem to share some mechanics. So I should go back and play through it proper afterwards.

Actually, I've never used Rarehunter_idol on PSN. Always been RareSpine, haha. Regardless, it's done now.

I've never had many issues cancelling a pre-order from EB. My town has two stores and one store is run by (excuse my language) a totally useless bitch. She's extremely rude, and one time refused to look up my pre-order to cancel it because I did it online (which I set that store as my pick up). So I left knowing that I was correct, but contacted the website support anyway... who, lo and behold, tell me the store I chose had to cancel it. Went back and got it done.

Usually I don't bother, as they're way more expensive anyhow, and Target are usually cheaper than everybody else. Although the service at Target is trash as well, can be waiting upwards of 10 minutes for the one person with keys to the back to come and collect the game.

I bought Arkham Knight from JB. All sealed and good, but my Scarecrow and skins codes don't work. Contacted WB about it, but looks like I'm SOL. JB won't bother with it anyway, being that it was sealed and everything :

Oh undoubtedly, DMC3 is the definitive game in the series by far. I'm quite surprised Capcom haven't tried to update that one for the new consoles, considering they love their remasters. Speaking of which, RE2 getting one is good news, and the pack coming out next year with RE0 and RE1 sounds nice.

I didn't realise that Star Fox Zero had Platinum involved. Knowing that makes it a game I wouldn't really care for into one I'll keep an eye out on, definitely. I still gotta go back to Bayonetta 2 though.

Haha yeah I have finished the original Metal Gears. Although I must admit, they were pretty bad in my opinion. The gameplay has not seemingly aged well at all, and the gameplay is just confusing for the sake of it. I had to force my way through 'em, and only for that MGS link (which wasn't all that imo).

You're right, I did wind up getting MGSV, haha. My interest in PC has died down a lot in the past few months with my computer issues (although fixed now). It seems to come and go for me you may have noticed, haha, but really the PS4 and X1 run games really well for the time being.

I noticed we never added each other on PSN, so that's fixed now. Might have to send you a real name request so I remember who you are.

I had started playing MGSV, but I'm way slower at playing it than anybody else I know with the game. Right now I'm only on mission 09, and have completed about 10-15 side ops. I find it difficult to play through the game for more than an hour or so at a time.

Don't get me wrong I really like the game, but I'm disappointed this is Kojima's final MGS. I prefer the traditional style, but this is still very good. Even though, the story and character development isn't there most of the time and thanks to the Keifer decision, we get hardly any dialogue outside of cassettes, which I have to sit and listen to in the helicopter as I find it distracting to do that during sneaking around.

I miss my 20-minute long cutscenes, haha.

I'll have to disagree with you on the open world though. I feel that the map is a nuisance to get around because the world is just so empty. Outside of outposts and villages, the world is completely devoid of anything except an animal now and then. I'm hoping that there's another map or two other than Afghanistan, but It doesn't seem like it.

Now I do enjoy playing the game, as the mechanics are really nice, but it's not as great as I was hoping.

Haha I have my own weird rules for compilations. Typically it's just one entry unless I play through a game and give it a mention all of its own. I don't intend to play all the games in these sets!

I need to dig into DMC4, although whenever I do play it I get nostalgic for DMC3 and really want to play that one. One of my all time favourites for sure!

Reading about games, especially in a magazine, can be a cool feeling for sure. I used to be an avid reader of Hyper until a few years back. It was always fun reading that way rather than on the internet.

I'm excited for Phantom Pain myself, but I won't be playing it anytime soon. Probably a month or two after release at the earliest. Too much else that has my attention right now, and next month is my sports month haha. Been two years since I bought a new NHL game, so it's time.

Yeah I really need to play Xenoblade before I can even think of getting excited for X. I mean, it's the one New 3DS games I have, so I should have put the system to use lol. Still, I'm sure it'll be pretty good, a lot of people list Chronicles as one of their all time favourites.

I've moved away from my PC a fair bit. There's just not a whole lot coming to it that excites me, and given my PC woes my interest in it was shaken a fair bit. Console gaming for me will always be number one, but I haven't completely abandoned it. I've gotten back into iOS gaming a fair bit, and it's amazing how far it's come in the past couple of years. It's essentially a powerful portable machine now. I've been playing Strangers Wrath on it with a gamepad I got for it, and it's just as good as playing it anywhere else. Quite astonishing.

It's going to be nice to see some of those long-going SE games finally come out. Taking them so damn long, I really wonder what the issues really were (bad leadership, lack of staff... maybe both?). FF7 remake is a bit silly to have announced now, but I guess considering how popular it is after all these years, announcing it so early isn't going to impact it all that much when it hits. I should probably aim to beat the original sometime before then though.

Nomura is a really busy man, haha.

I wonder if the PS4 version of FFX is all that different visually to the PS3 edition. I can't imagine that it is, though. I've got the Vita version of FFX, which runs really nice.

Yep got through Dark Souls II! I enjoyed it a whole lot, but I quit playing the DLC because I didn't like it at all. The base game was great and really fun, but the DLC I got through was a drag, the enemy and level design was awful. Not sure why people rate it so highly.

As you might be able to tell, I've now got a PS4! So I started Blooborne, and while i quite like it so far... the Dark Souls fatigue you've mentioned has kicked in for me. I can't bring myself to play through it for a decent amount of time right now. So I'm going to put it aside for a little while.

I've been thinking about finally playing DmC sometime in the near future. I never bought it because of the whole Dante thing, but now that Capcom has said both games exist separately, I'm down for giving it a go as most people seem to like it.

I beat 999 a while ago myself, and It was really good. I've owned VLR for ages on the Vita, so I really ought to play it before the next one comes out.

Square is in a really interesting position, especially considering they were supposedly putting all their eggs in the FFXV basket. Although I reckon a big reason they are able to take on so many big projects (financially) is due to their western successes. Games like Deus Ex and Tomb Raider have been real big for Square, so I would think those games have helped them a fair bit.

I'm kinda hoping for a curreent-gen port of the two recent Kingdom Hearts HD sets. I know we won't get it, and that it wouldn't be that big a boost, but I would actually really like that. When KH3 gets a solid date, I'll have to go back to the first two.

There's a reason for that, though. Demon's Souls is an amazing game in my eyes, and my mind was blown playing through it way back. Dark Souls, while good, didn't capture that same feeling for me. They removed a lot about Demon's that I adored, and I kept feeling that while playing it.

Now though, Dark Souls 2 has captured my full attention. I'm only about 20 hours in, but I'm making good progress and have been having a lot of fun (with some mild frustration as is expected). I don't know whether it's that now is the right time for me to be playing this, or whether it really is a better game than Dark Souls in my eyes (which I feel is true, but i will have to go back to the first game). But regardless, it's reminding me of Demon's in a few ways, which I think is being helped by playing the Miracle class as I did back then. Although I'm sword and shield here rather than halberd/Shield in Demon's (don't like the weapon much in DS2).

In any case, it's gotten me excited to see it through and to look forward to Bloodborne.

Yeah I'm not sure about DOTA 2 yet. Love the aesthetic and difference in heroes, but the movement and feel... feels really sluggish. Plus it has the teething pains of myself not knowing what everyone else is capable of doing. The range on spells is insane here though. I much prefer League, but I would like to have the option of the two.

Yeah those PC issues with Arkham Knight are insane. If I had of gotten It, I wouldn't have gotten the PC version anyway, but yeah it's weird. I had some bad PC issues the past few weeks, turned out one of my 4GB RAM sticks (of which I had two) was being faulty and screwing everything up. So that's fixed, thankfully.
