Pokemon Platinum
I'm really really salty for losing Shinx like immediately. I loved using Luxray in Silver.

Are there really that many opportunities to play FERTBERL in Canada? That's 'Murrican FERTBERL not SERKER.

I felt that way about Paper John Land, too; I still don't know how I feel about it. It's kinda bland, but extremely charming. Like one of those games that has horrible flaws and wonderful elements, landing it right in the middle when everything's averaged out, but its flaws really weren't so glaring, so I have no idea. Then, there are games like Ys 5; that game is an absolutely perfect 5/10. The gameplay is Zelda with a jump button and a useless magic system, the visuals are extraordinarily normal, the story is ripped right from the Great Big Book of Anime Cliches, and the soundtrack is just short of anything it's trying to be at any given time. I have never played a more average game in my entire life. Sadly, that makes it one of the best Ys games I've ever played. Anyway, I totally agree that the text is more important, but the numerical score at least gives a baseline, so I feel that's important, too, when it's relevant. I actually start with the score when I'm trying to decide if I want a game or not, usually going with the lowest I can find.

I suppose that's true enough, but it's certainly true that given enough time, most time periods are romanticized beyond the limits of actual reality. You'd think I'd have loved the '90s, being the cynical bitch that I am, but I didn't care for them much at all. Hell, '97 was my first bout of suicidal tendencies.

How? Different TV in Canada, I suppose.

I'm not one to really use healing items all that much; I stopped buying them altogether once I learned PSI Lifeup. I tossed my cookies, too, because they're worthless. :need a puking emoticon: I suppose that Jeff is an inventory hog, because of all the shit he can lug around, but I usually had plenty of space. Usually; not always.

I imagine you do at that! How's that going? Everything healing as it should? My lady just got out of surgery, too, but hers was for her shoulder.

It may also partially be my bias against time travel, because it's total bullshit. It's not a bad story, really; just a very thoughtless one, as anyone who's played and understood the implications of Chrono Cross can tell you. It's a game that grabs you by the emotions and drags you on a wild ride, but not in a manner as insulting as how Mother 3 does it, because it remembers that subtlety is a thing.

I learned Football from a Tiny Toons game, just to get past the 4th stage; I hate the fucking sport. Not that I'm a big sports fan, though I enjoy playing a lot more than watching.

I like both, really; I'm such a fan of strange that I appreciate it from all angles. My favorite flavor of strange is the kind that makes you wonder not what the fuck just happened, but whether the fuck. That said, like most lower invertebrates, I love bright colors. Of course! That's why, despite going into painstaking detail, almost every review I write has a score. The one exception is Akiba's Trip, and that's just because I couldn't come up with a number. 2/10 gameplay, but 9/10 if it had been an anime.

Girl, you well and truly despise everything I like to watch. Anyway, I don't necessarily disagree, but I feel that such an addition is unnecessary, because everyone already knows the popular shit from that era. You know about The Beatles. You know about disco. You know about hot pink Spandex. You know about Nirvana. The shit doesn't go away, especially how we've been recycling pop culture these last few decades. So, if we're being so symantically aware, you don't need to look at the shit everyone remembers, because it never stops dancing in front of your eyes. The popular shit is how people want to remember it; it's how shitty decades like the '80s get to be so fucking glorified in the eyes of the populace. To get the full view - in this case, what you're missing from the whole picture - you need to look at the shit that was bad, forgettable, or just plain weird. Like, who remembers Count Duckula? Not too many, but I remember that shit being on TV all the time, and it gives a pretty good look at what you'd see on TV at the time.

Limited inventory is always a real shitbitch; it bothers me in most any JRPG, but I found Earthbound's to be rather roomy in comparison to some of the older ones. Or shit, Legend of Dragoon or any Paper Mario game. Granted, you could double your inventory size in Legend of Dragoon... if you live in Japan and have a Pocketstation. The second Paper Mario had the Strange Sack; I love seeing the message, "You've got a Strange Sack."

Fun is great, and necessary for a good game, but when other games are fun, and also have a deep story, etc., that puts them in a whole other class. That class belongs above Chrono Trigger.
