He's just kinda there so the game has an excuse to give you a plane for quick travel and so they can skip over areas they don't want to try and connect. Rocket Town is not in the game nor is any of his story content, he doesn't mention anything about the space program or Shinra holding onto his airship and actually says he's okay working with Shinra. So he doesn't have anything to be a grumpy asshole about, so he isn't, he's a little blunt but otherwise pretty friendly and jokey. It's not that this is a bad character but it's not Cid. I could see this as a post character arc Cid but it seems completely unrealistic to pivot back to his story in the third game now, he's traveling with the group so there is no broken man with crushed dreams that joins the party after Shinra tries to take his last remaining work in the Tiny Bronco.

So what's left for him? Give him a new story? Or try to cram the years of failure and Shinra screwing him into a story event? Or just pretend he's been lying about his relationship to Shinra and trot out the backstory anyways? The last could have worked if they wrote it a little different and he wasn't so carefree in Rebirth.

I really don't like the story writing in Remake/Rebirth but the characters have generally been good even if in Rebirth everyone just seems like they're on vacation most the time. But Cid I have absolutely no idea what they're going to do with this character, which is a shame because he's probably my favorite character in 7 and I think they could have had some fun with adding a grumpy 30 year old that everyone treats like he's 50.

And now you know the dangers of asking me stuff about the 7 remakes.

Like the first one this is definitely going to be a toxic relationship. The good times keep me around despite the abuse (story writing).

Lol I just saw your comment on SaGa and it made me giggle. Sadly can't join the FF7 train myself either since I'll be waiting for a PC release.
